Chapter 176: Losing His Dignity
Ian left after bidding Dominic goodbye; he obviously couldn't stay any longer. Dominic planned to leave as well, but upon returning to the hall, he couldn't find Bella.
He panicked, searching the crowd while calling her. She answered, whispering, "I'm in the toilet"
Relieved, he said, "I'll wait for you at the banquet hall entrance." But before he could hang up, she stopped him. "Wait I can't come out right now"
"Why?" he asked, frowning.
After a pause, Bella replied awkwardly, "It's difficult to explain. I'll just text you on WhatsApp." She hung up. Confused, Dominic received a text two minutes later: she needed sanitary pads because her period had unexpectedly started. He'd never had to do this before.
After buying the pads, he approached a staff member with a straight face, saying, "Could you please give these to someone named Bella?" He even added a tip, slightly embarrassed but maintaining his composure.
Shortly afterward, Bella emerged, awkwardly clutching her skirt. Understanding immediately, Dominic removed his jacket and tied it around her waist. He noticed her pale complexion and cold sweat. "Are you in much pain?" he asked.
Humiliated, Bella explained that she'd experienced sudden cramps while eating. Rushing to the restroom, she'd discovered a stained skirt and worsening pain. Her usual cycle had been disrupted by emergency contraception, making her period irregular and the cramps more intense. Worried about staining his jacket, she murmured, "I'm alright I don't want to get your clothes dirty"
Dominic sighed. "This has been the most awkward day of my life. What's a jacket compared to the dignity I've lost?"
Bella was surprised. "You went to buy the pads yourself?" She'd expected him to send someone else.
He didn't answer, his awkwardness evident. "Let's go."
In the car, Bella was pale, drenched in sweat, and looked frighteningly weak. Dominic, inexperienced with this, hesitated before driving off. Frowning, he asked, "Should we go to the hospital?"
Bella shook her head. "I'm a doctor. I have medication at home. By the way, how's Ian?"
He felt helpless. "You're in so much pain and yet you're gossiping? Women truly are odd."
"I just want to distract myself from the pain," she replied. "Otherwise, I can't bear it"
"Does that work?" he asked.
Bella nodded repeatedly. It often worked; she used the technique to distract her patients.
After a moment, Dominic leaned in and kissed her. She froze, her heart racing. He kissed her passionately, their tongues entwining. She felt a wave of desire and instinctively threw her arms around his shoulders.
