Chapter 34: Seeing Dominic Again

When they arrived home, two black sedans were parked at the gate, leaving no space for Leonard's car. He had to drop Bella off and then find another parking spot.

Bella walked into the courtyard and saw Dominic holding blueprints, discussing something with others. Sunlight filtered through the grape trellis, casting delicate shadows on him, creating a picturesque scene.

Suddenly, a professionally dressed woman with short, neat hair emerged from the kitchen carrying a tea tray. Bella instinctively stepped back and retreated to her room. This was the same woman who had been in Dominic's arms at the hotel. Bella had waited outside the hotel all night, dreading what might have happened between them in his room. Even on this business trip, he had brought her along.

Dominic's arrival had made Leonard's house lively, but for Bella, it was torture. Her peaceful life was shattered. To avoid Dominic, she mostly stayed in her room or the kitchen. However, the kitchen was often occupied by his companion, who seemed to manage his meals and personal care. Whenever they met, Bella remained silent, like a timid creature. Magdalena, however, always greeted her; Bella would only nod before hurrying away.

Late one night, Bella went to the kitchen to make something to eat and encountered Magdalena again. Perhaps because Magdalena was only making a drink and seemed about to leave, Bella didn't avoid her this time. Magdalena greeted her as usual, then unexpectedly asked, "Do you think there's something more than professional between Mr. Miller and me?"

Bella looked at her in surprise but didn't answer.

Magdalena smiled. "Sometimes, what you see isn't the truth. Mr. Miller isn't that kind of man. I'm just his assistant."

With that, Magdalena took her tea and left. Bella couldn't understand why Magdalena had said anything. Anything related to Dominic no longer concerned her.

After eating instant noodles, Bella considered showering. The doctor had advised her not to get her wound wet to aid healing, but she thought she could be careful.

Bella entered the bathroom and undressed. As she turned on the shower, the bathroom door suddenly opened. Startled, she grabbed a towel. Seeing Dominic, she froze. "Do you need to use the bathroom? I'll leave now!"

Dominic looked at her with a blank expression. "You're a doctor. Don't you understand common sense?"

Bella couldn't respond. She wanted to explain about her wound, but the words wouldn't come.

After the bathroom door closed, she dejectedly dried herself. She felt somewhat refreshed, but couldn't wash her hair. It was long—past her waist—naturally healthy, and untouched by dye or perms. It had been her pride, but now felt like a burden. The recent warm weather made the unwashed hair unbearable. She considered cutting the long hair she'd grown for so many years.

The courtyard was quiet and dark. Bella found scissors and placed a trash can at her feet. Her slender fingers gathered her hair, and she brought the scissors close.

Before she could cut it, the scissors were snatched from her hand.
