Chapter 148

But it was too late. With a loud โ€œbang,โ€ Winford kicked the door open with fierce force. In the next moment, there was a dead silence. Graham and the manager, along with others, stared in disbelief, their eyes wide open. Winfordโ€™s impending fury was stuck in mid-air, neither rising nor falling.

In the room, a chair was placed in the center, and a man was tied to it. The man was left with only a pair of eye-watering shorts; his face was bruised and swollen, tears and snot streaming down his face, with a sock stuffed in his mouth as he sobbed in despair. Right in front of the man, a mobile phone faced him, live-streaming!

โ€œThisโ€ฆ this is that scoundrel?โ€

Graham and the manager, along with others, looked at Ophelia in a daze and shock. Winford also slowly looked over. Ophelia felt a darkness before her eyes and rushed forward, immediately turning off the live stream. Then she turned around and, without hesitation, threw herself into the manโ€™s arms, saying, โ€œHoney, you finally came! I was so scared, boohoo!โ€

Graham: โ€œ?โ€ Manager: โ€œ?โ€ Jasper (on the chair): โ€œMmmmmmโ€ฆ!โ€

Even though Winford had seen countless grand occasions, he couldnโ€™t help but fall silent for a moment. He glanced at Jasperโ€™s face, swollen beyond recognitionโ€”likely unrecognizable even to his own motherโ€”and then lowered his gaze to the girl in his arms, who was completely unharmed.

โ€œWhat were you afraid of?โ€

โ€œSomeone wanted to bully me! Fortunately, I fought back; otherwise, I didnโ€™t know what would have happened, sobโ€ฆโ€

Others:

Jasperโ€™s eyes, swollen to a slit, shed two tears as he struggled to say something. However, as he inhaled, the smell of the stinky socks invaded his throat, making him gag and roll his eyes back, looking as if he was about to pass out.

โ€œHoney, I didnโ€™t want to stay here anymore. We hurried back home!โ€

Ophelia held the manโ€™s waist and, feeling embarrassed, hurriedly tried to walk outside. There was no way to make that trash, Jasper, disappear; they could only make Winford leave quickly! Otherwise, staying for just one more second would constantly remind him that this โ€œheart-stirringโ€ scene was created by her!

Winfordโ€™s obscure gaze lingered on Jasper for a second, allowing her to lead him out the door.

โ€œHubby, why are you here?โ€ Once she got into the car, Ophelia finally sighed in relief and then asked.

Winford didnโ€™t answer but asked her, โ€œWhat was Lia doing here?โ€ He spoke in a very calm tone, and his deep and handsome profile appeared dim and flickering in the dimly lit carriage, making the emotions in his eyes difficult to discern. Somehow, Ophelia felt a tightness in her heart.

Learning to cook was a surprise for her. She didnโ€™t intend to reveal it right away, so she vaguely said, โ€œI came over here for something, and then that Jasper actually pretended to be you, my husband, and tricked me into coming. It was really too much!โ€

โ€œFortunately, I was clever and took advantage of his unpreparedness to knock him down and tie him up!โ€

She chattered away, but Winford remained silent. Ophelia sensed that something was wrong and cautiously looked up. โ€œHoneyโ€ฆ?โ€

A large hand suddenly landed on the top of her head and gently rubbed it. At the same time, the man could not hear the emotional voice that rang out above his head.

โ€œLia, would you have accompanied me when I left this world?โ€

Ophelia suddenly froze, and there was a dead silence in the car.

Chapter 148

After dealing with Jasper, Graham, who had just gotten into the car, heard these words and felt a chill in his heart, momentarily forgetting to breathe. Ophelia fell silent in an instant. Winford thought she was frightened, and a cold, mocking smile curled at the corners of his lips. But suddenly, the girl threw herself into his arms, holding onto him tightly as if she had exhausted all her strength in that moment.

โ€œYou wouldnโ€™t die!โ€ Ophelia tried her best to hold back her emotions, but her voice still carried a sobbing tone. โ€œYou would live a long life, and I would accompany you for a lifetime!โ€

Even though she knew she could save him, Ophelia still felt scared when she heard him say such things, and her heart ached painfully.

โ€œHoney, donโ€™t say things like thatโ€ฆ okay?โ€

Winfordโ€™s heart suddenly sank, and that hand froze in her hair. The tremor, helplessness, pleading, and fear in her voice were so real and intense that they instantly dissipated the anger he had built up along the way, leaving not a trace behind.

He didnโ€™t say anything else. The car returned to the apartment, and Ophelia was still feeling uneasy.
