Chapter 179
Opheliaโs husband was so terrifying that merely sharing the same space created immense pressure. They greeted each other and quickly left the hospital, as if fleeing for their lives. As they exited, they all breathed a sigh of relief.
โBy the way, Hannah,โ Lucy asked curiously, โwhat was Opheliaโs husband really like?โ
Others were also curious: โYeah, why were the principal and the others so respectful toward Opheliaโs boyfriend?โ Everyone seemed secretive when mentioning him. He clearly attended the school anniversary, yet his introduction differed from the others. The host detailed each guestโs background, identity, and name; however, Opheliaโs boyfriend received only a brief, โMr. Pruitt.โ Yet, he was the only one formally welcomed by so many school leaders.
Hannah, still reeling from the question, regained her composure. In response to the curious gazes, she cautiously shook her head. โAs for that gentlemanโs identity, I was only guessing,โ she said. โEven if it was a guess, I canโt say much. Just remember that heโs quite remarkable and absolutely should not be provoked!โ
She had never actually seen the legendary Mr. Winford; she had only vaguely heard heโd come to Minston for rehabilitation. Until this school anniversary, a relative with close ties to George had heard rumors suggesting Mr. Winford might attend. Sheโd been curious and looking forward to it. Who knew sheโd meet the legendary Mr. Winford, but she never expected him to be married to Ophelia!
โIt sounded like we had a chance to provoke that gentleman,โ Lucy said, her lips twitching.
When theyโd entered the hospital, theyโd passed several waves of bodyguards! If not for the bodyguard knowing they were Opheliaโs classmates, they probably wouldnโt have even been able to reach that floor. Even Hannah, from the most affluent family among them, shared this apprehension. What exactly was the identity of Opheliaโs mysterious husband?
In the ward, all the idle people had left, leaving only Ophelia alone, facing Winfordโs cold, hard expression.
โHoney, I really knew I was wrong!โ she said, throwing herself into his arms and pouting.
โReally?โ Winford looked down at her, his reply a faint question, neither affirming nor denying.
โOf course!โ She widened her beautiful eyes, looking at him with utmost sincerity. โI would never do this again!โ
Winford let out a slight sneer, as if disbelieving her. Opheliaโs eyes drooped, and she leaned gloomily against him. โI knew you didnโt care about your reputation, that you thought those things unimportant,โ she said. โSo you were angry that I risked myself for something you didnโt care about.โ
โBut you didnโt care, I caredโฆโ she continued. โMany people said you werenโt good, but I knew that wasnโt true. In my heart, no one could be better than you!โ
โSo I didnโt want people to say you were ungrateful, just because you couldnโt stand the sight of me, and that you dealt with the daughter of the person who saved your lifeโฆโ
Winford was momentarily taken aback. He had no idea she felt this way.
Ophelia let go of him, slumping her shoulders and sitting down. โIf you think I was wrong, then punish me,โ she said sullenly. โAnyway, if I had the chance to do it all over again, I would still do it this way!โ
No one spoke for a long time. Opheliaโs heart raced, and just as she was about to lift her head, her chin was suddenly lifted. The manโs gaze was deep, his slightly calloused thumb gently stroking her delicate chin. โSo those words were meant to fool me,โ he said.
She felt anxious and was about to speak when a domineering kiss silenced her. Opheliaโs head felt dizzy and blank, her heart racing so fast it almost caused tinnitus. No matter how many times it happened, his intimacy instantly infatuated her. In that moment, she thought that if he had always been by her side, losing the whole world wouldnโt matter.
