Chapter 394

โ€œI didnโ€™t get off the car; you can go in by yourself,โ€ Xander said.

Isabelle felt a bit unwilling, but she didnโ€™t dare say anything more, afraid of arousing Xanderโ€™s suspicion again. She had to get up and move away.

Xander was about to leave when, at that moment, Ophelia came over.

โ€œXander.โ€

The clear and melodious voice made Xander suddenly pause. Turning his head, he saw a familiar figure. His jaw tightened abruptly, and he said expressionlessly, โ€œWhy are you coming over?โ€

Ophelia didnโ€™t pay any attention to his expression. She softly said, โ€œOf course I saw you. Come over and letโ€™s talk.โ€

โ€œWhatโ€™s there to say?โ€ Xander didnโ€™t look at her; his clear voice was tinged with impatience and annoyance. โ€œI have things to do, so Iโ€™ll leave first.โ€

Ophelia reached out without hesitation through the car window and grabbed him. โ€œYou donโ€™t have anything to say, but I do!โ€

Xander had already started the car, but he was startled by her action and quickly turned off the engine.

โ€œWhat were you doing?!โ€ His face suddenly darkened, and he shouted angrily.

Ophelia paused for a moment, blinked her eyes, and said, โ€œI had my limits. I wouldnโ€™t let myself get hurt, Xander, donโ€™t worry.โ€

Xanderโ€™s expression froze, and he coldly said, โ€œWho would worry about you!โ€

Ophelia didnโ€™t pay much attention to his attitude. She suddenly glanced at Isabelle beside her and smiled faintly. โ€œI have something to say to my cousin. Can you leave, please?โ€

The phrase โ€œmy cousinโ€ made Isabelle feel extremely grating, then incredibly laughable. Whatโ€™s the point of Ophelia going to such great lengths to please the Whitaker family? Will they really forgive her? Ha! She wasnโ€™t at all worried about Ophelia and Xander being alone, because out of the entire Whitaker family, Xander despised Ophelia the most!

So she obediently said to Xander, โ€œXander, Iโ€™m going in.โ€

Then, he glanced at Ophelia mockingly and walked away.

โ€œLet go!โ€ Xander glanced at the pale fingers gripping his arm and said coldly.

Ophelia let go and obediently engaged in small talk with him, asking, โ€œHow are Grandpa and Grandma doing lately?โ€

Xander raised his haughty eyebrows and sneered, โ€œYou used to care about our grandparents?โ€

Ophelia said sincerely, โ€œIn the past, it was my fault. I now realize my mistakes. I remember that my grandfather was not in good health, so if there is anything, please let me know.โ€

Xander pursed his thin lips and ignored her.

Ophelia continued, โ€œAnd also, Xander wouldnโ€™t help Isabelle bully me, right? I am your cousin, after all.โ€

Xander continued to speak coldly. โ€œIsabelle wouldnโ€™t bully you.โ€

โ€œReally?โ€ Ophelia smiled faintly. โ€œThen how come Xander is here today? Did you come here voluntarily?โ€

Xander hesitated, and thinking about Isabelleโ€™s words just now, couldnโ€™t help but furrow his brow. He was rarely at home and didnโ€™t have much contact with Isabelle, but in his impression, this adopted sister has always had a noble character. But just now, she actually used the life-saving favor from five years ago to blackmail himโ€ฆ

Xander vaguely felt that the other person seemed somewhat different from what he had in mind. But he was feeling restless, and looking at the girl slumped against the car window, he couldnโ€™t calm down and think carefully. He roughly thought that maybe he was overthinking. He was just a little disappointed with Isabelle.

Ophelia didnโ€™t miss the change in his expression. She curved her lips into a faint smile and said earnestly, โ€œXander, there have been too many misunderstandings between me and the Whitaker family over the years. I hope you can give me a chance to explainโ€”who I really am. I will gradually make you all see.โ€
