Chapter 41: Ophelia’s Counterattack

How could she have forgotten something as crucial as monitoring? If she hadn’t handled it well, how could she have dared to take out that phone so confidently?

Thinking this in her heart, she said without the slightest hint of guilt, “Yeah, don’t you have surveillance? Then you can check the footage to prove my innocence!”

Ophelia opened the monitoring software on her phone and, not surprisingly, found that during that time, Sunset Vista had experienced a power outage, and there were no records from the surveillance.

“Power outage? What a coincidence?” Ophelia was almost laughing in anger; was this treating her like a fool?

Elva said confidently, “Are you going to slander me again, saying that I intentionally cut off the electricity?”

Ophelia cast a sharp glance and said, “Whether it’s slander or not is not for you to decide with your mouth!”

She looked at the time of the power outage, which was twelve o’clock noon, and the power had been out for ten minutes. At that time, both she and Winford were not at Sunset Vista.

“Who was working near the electrical switch at that time?” she called all the servants in her house and asked.

The servants looked at each other, and after a moment, two maids stepped forward. Ophelia recognized at a glance that these two people were the ones who had surrounded Elva’s belly and gossiped about her when she had entered the room. They seemed to have a good relationship with Elva.

“You didn’t see anything?” she asked directly.

Suddenly, the power went out, and there was no news of any issues with the lines. It could only mean that someone had pulled the circuit breaker. Whether it was Elva or someone else who did it, once it was done, it was impossible for no one to have noticed!

Two maids quietly glanced at Bertha and both said, “Didn’t see anything.”

Ophelia was indeed Mr. Winford’s wife, but in the minds of the servants, her status was still not on par with that of Bertha, the housekeeper.

Ah, what about the lady? Sunset Vista has had its share of ladies before; just look at where they all are now. Even though Ophelia was somewhat different and was favored a bit by Mr. Winford, his interest in her could fade at any moment. Only a fool would go against her and Bertha!

Two maids curled their lips, faintly revealing their disdain.

Ophelia observed their expressions and smiled faintly to herself. No matter what, she was still Winford’s wife, Mrs. Pruitt of the Pruitt family. They were merely servants of Sunset Vista; where did their sense of superiority come from that they looked down on her?

Her gaze was slightly cold, and she didn’t dwell on it for the moment. She simply asked, “I’ll give you another chance—are you sure you didn’t see anything?”

The two maids felt a sudden unease in their hearts, but still unhappily said, “Madam, we didn’t see anything, so what do you mean by asking us this? Are you threatening us to wrong Elva?”

Ophelia narrowed her eyes, and a cold aura suddenly erupted from her. Just as she was about to speak, someone interrupted her.

“Madam, they are lying! It was Elva who turned off the power, I saw it!”

A single sentence changed the expressions of Elva and the others. The one speaking was the honest maid, Lily. She had obviously mustered up her courage to dare to speak, and now, seeing everyone looking at her, she suddenly felt a bit flustered.

Ophelia had a good impression of Lily. Her expression softened slightly as she comforted her, saying, “Don’t be afraid. What did you see? Please tell me in detail.”

Seeing the encouragement in her eyes, Lily felt even braver. “It was Elva who turned off the power, I saw it, and they both saw it too!” She pointed at the two maids.

The two maids and Elva all changed their expressions at the same time.

Elva angrily said, “Lily, what nonsense are you talking about?! If you have the ability, bring out the evidence!”

Lily immediately became anxious; she had only seen it by chance, so there was no evidence at all!

In a hurry, she said to Ophelia, “Madam, I did not lie…”

“Don’t worry, I believed in you,” Ophelia said.

Lily immediately breathed a sigh of relief.

Bertha was dissatisfied, “What does this mean, madam? There is no evidence at all, and you want to convict my Elva?”

The two maids also said, “We didn’t see Elva pull the switch at all; it was Lily who was lying! If the lady punishes us for this reason, we won’t accept it!”

Ophelia smiled, but her eyes were icy. “I gave you a chance, but you didn’t want it. You want evidence, right? I have it.”

Elva’s heart sank for a moment, but she quickly reacted and realized that she had dealt with all the surveillance. What evidence could Ophelia possibly have?

A heart suddenly sank.

“You didn’t think that there was only one camera in my room, did you?” Ophelia’s voice suddenly sounded.

She had long anticipated that the other party would steal something; how could she be so careless and not make any preparations? As early as yesterday, she had already placed a miniature camera in the room, and the power outage had no effect on that camera!

She took out her phone, and her pale fingers gently tapped the screen. In the next moment, Elva’s figure appeared on the screen; she was holding a key and sneakily opening her drawer.

Elva’s face suddenly turned pale. At that moment, the figures of two maids unexpectedly appeared. They were at the door, whispering, “Elva, did you find it? If you don’t pull up the circuit breaker soon, everyone will start to suspect!”

The faces of the two maids instantly turned pale.

Ophelia raised her beautiful eyebrows. When she imported the video to her phone earlier, she was too busy going to get the marriage certificate to watch it. She only confirmed that there must be evidence of Elva’s wrongdoing, but she didn’t expect that there would be these two people as well!

“Now, was there anything else to say?”

“It was all Elva’s doing! We just had to keep it a secret because of Bertha, ma’am, please spare us this time!” The two maids changed their story without hesitation, pleading in a flustered manner.

Elva looked very upset, wishing she could slap the two of them. She said to Ophelia, “I wasn’t trying to steal your things! If it weren’t for you—”

Rationality returned, and the voice abruptly stopped.

Ophelia lifted her chin and said, “What if it weren’t me? Go on, keep talking.”

Elva’s face turned the color of pig liver. She wanted to say that if Ophelia hadn’t hidden that recording, she wouldn’t have stolen anything! But she didn’t dare to speak; if she did, she would have to clarify what recording it was, and at that time, Mr. Winford wouldn’t let her off!

Previously, she had discovered those text messages and believed she had grasped Ophelia’s weakness, thinking she could easily crush her. Therefore, she was not afraid of the recording being exposed—after all, a woman whom Mr. Winford despised and wanted to get rid of, what did it matter if her previous actions against him were revealed? Mr. Winford would definitely not seek justice for her anymore!

But who would have known that Ophelia, that wretched woman, could actually manage to soften Mr. Winford’s heart!

Seeing that Elva didn’t dare to say a word, Ophelia sneered and directly confronted Bertha.

“Stealing into the master’s room to take things, Bertha, what do you think should be done?”
