Chapter 100
Helplessly, Vespera had no choice but to pick up her cutlery and continue eating. Rebecca was clearly too dazzled by Dominic to think logically. Not that anyone could blame her. Who could resist being gazed at so tenderly by such a handsome man? If that wasn’t breathtaking, then what was? Even the dart owner’s wife seemed a little too excited.
Rebecca even tried to force Luke to eat as well, but a few plates from him made her retreat, and she didn’t dare to push any further. In the end, they all left the diner. Vespera was supposedly leaning on Rebecca for support when Luke suddenly pushed his way in, shoving Rebecca aside to take her place.
“Will you cut it out already?” Vespera yanked her arm free and hissed in a low voice.
Luke’s gaze darkened as he said, “Don’t tell me you’re planning to leave with Dominic.”
Vespera retorted, “Who I’m leaving with is none of your business. We both signed the divorce papers. If you refuse to finalize it, then that’s your problem! As far as I’m concerned, we’re done!!!” Upon saying that, she shook off his hand again.
Luke tightened his grip around her wrist in return. “Well, not for me.”
Dominic clicked his tongue as he stood in the dark. “I’ve heard these lines at least three times now.”
Rebecca sighed. “If this were a novel, it would be considered padding the word count. One says ‘divorce,’ the other says ‘no.’ The saga never ends.”
After a moment of silence, Dominic suggested, “How about this? I’ll take Luke, and you take Vespera.”
Rebecca agreed with a nod. As she turned to look at him, she was stunned at how tall he was. Despite standing at 5’6”, she still had to tilt her head way back just to meet his eyes. Being held by him would definitely feel safe. She stared at him with glittering eyes, and with a shy voice, she said, “Mr. Reid, if things don’t work out with Vera… Do you think I could…
Dominic looked down at her. “Oh, I’m not interested in women.” His tone was so natural, so casual, and so utterly ruthless. Rebecca was shattered.
Not interested in women? So, Vespera was actually telling the truth? He really didn’t fancy women at all? Then, could that be… he was into men? Oh heavens! What a waste of such a perfect specimen.
Dominic ignored her wild imagination and walked toward the two who were stuck in a loop. He extended his arm and flung it around Luke’s shoulder, mollifying him like a sulking child. “I won’t take her away, I’ll take you instead. How’s that sound?”
Luke stiffened upon the physical contact.
“Your car is out of gas, and it’s hard to call a cab in the middle of the night here. As for the issue of divorce, we can discuss it another day without affecting the final outcome.” As Dominic spoke, he gently pushed Luke toward his car.
Being slightly taller than Luke, Dominic was the epitome of cool, handsome elegance, while Luke had a more rugged, masculine charm. Logically, Luke should have had a stronger presence, but standing next to a man like Dominic, he was sadly overshadowed.
Luke brushed past Dominic’s arm and turned, noticing Rebecca’s car parked in front of Vespera’s. He tried to go over and stop her, but Dominic held him back. That gave Vespera a significant amount of time to get into the car.
“Vespera!” Luke cried at the departing car. To be fair, he wasn’t actually angry that Vespera had gotten into Rebecca’s car; he was angry that she had once again run away from him. This time, it happened right before his eyes.
Dominic patted his shoulder and said, “Mr. Munoz, don’t disturb the neighborhood in the middle of the night. Let’s go.”
Luke shot him a threatening glare, his eyes full of unspoken rage, as if he wanted nothing more than to tear the man apart.
It was around 2:00 am when Vespera and Rebecca finally arrived back in Halewick. They both went straight to Rebecca’s place, re-wrapped Vespera’s slightly reopened wound with fresh gauze, and then quickly took a shower.
