Chapter 109

Sometimes, one only needed to give in. No matter how complicated the problem was, it would eventually be resolved. Vespera had no doubt that Dominic could make her problem go away. After all, he was Dominic. Being protected by someone powerful like Dominic made Vespera feel as if she had just scored a ticket to a safe house during the apocalypse.

But Vespera wondered if Dominic was being too good to her. Even if he enjoyed helping others, even if she did make a significant contribution during the branch inspection, even if he said he would take care of her.

Hold up! Vespera’s cheeks heated instantly. Rebecca’s teasing remarks and Dominic’s cryptic words last night kept replaying in Vespera’s mind. The more she thought about them, the more overwhelmed she was.

Dominic waited for a long time but did not hear her answer. “Still haven’t made up your mind?”

“I appreciate your kindness, but I’ll handle my own issues! Thank you! See you soon!” After blurting that out in a hurry, she ended the call.

Dominic seemed pensive as he moved his phone away. Within a moment, he seemed to have understood something, and his eyes darkened.

Meanwhile, Vespera had held her phone for at least five minutes before she was able to calm her racing heart. Wespera pondered carefully over Dominic’s behavior. Although he was very good to her, nothing about his actions suggested that he was interested in her. Vespera really had been overthinking. It was impossible for Dominic to have feelings for her. He didn’t even like women.

Suddenly, the door opened with a bang. Rebecca had returned. Rebecca had a court case in the morning, which ended in the afternoon. The case wasn’t progressing smoothly because the other party had presented new evidence. Left with no choice, she asked for a recess. Later, Rebecca had lunch with her client before discussing the case further at a nearby café. By the time Rebecca had watched Felicia’s press conference, it was almost 1:00 pm. Initially, she had planned to return to the law firm, but decided to return home immediately.

“Has Felicia lost her mind?” Rebecca tossed her briefcase aside furiously. There was a fierce scowl on her face.

Vespera calmed down. She cast aside her messy thoughts before replying, “She’s definitely acting weird.”

Rebecca folded her arms across her chest as she paced back and forth in front of the couch. “If Felicia can host a press conference, so can we! The evidence we have is much better than what she has! But if we do this, you’ll be burning bridges with Luke for good.”

Vespera’s gaze gradually turned heavy. “The Sowles never thought of that either.”

Rebecca sat on the couch. “What I’m trying to say is Luke might not even be aware of the press conference. No matter what, he has no reason to ruin this. After all, you guys did share the best eight years of your lives together…”

Vespera retorted, “So, he didn’t do it. That doesn’t mean he wasn’t responsible for the consequences today.”

“It’s not like I want to bum badges with Luke. If he had agreed to an amicable divorce, all these issues wouldn’t have happened. Thanks to Luke, Tina, Felicia, and I were forced to make our own investments to protect ourselves. Don’t you think he should be responsible for the consequences?” Rebecca became silent. After a moment, she nodded. “Alright, let’s fight back! We’ll go all the way. As your divorce attorney and childhood friend, I’ll represent you.”

That was how Vespera and Rebecca made their decision to fight back and undermine their source of evidence. They began brainstorming several points to refute Felicia’s statements, which pointed to…

By the time Vespera and Rebecca got everything ready and were about to record their response on the phone, the doorbell rang.

“I’ll get it,” Rebecca offered. She walked toward the door and looked through the peephole. It was Luke. He actually had the audacity to show up.

Rebecca was about to lose her temper but managed to calm herself down instantly. She turned off the recording function on her phone and pressed it against the back of the couch. While shooting Vespera a meaningful look, Rebecca went to open the door.
