Listen to this chapter:

It seemed Vespera had already expected her.

“Then let’s do it tomorrow. 10:00 am, at the family court,” Vespera said.

Rebecca replied, “Okay. I’ll pass the message along.”

She sighed, her voice tinged with frustration. “This bastard. He clicated and betrayed you, which is enough to make anyone furious. But also, he’s actually been quite generous with you.”

“If only he hadn’t made that one fatal mistake, it could’ve been the fairytale love we always dreamed of.”

Vespera suddenly smiled, the sunlight glinting in her eyes, her gaze sparkling as if there were tears in them. “Fairytales are all lies, you fool.”

Rebecca glanced up. “The fairytale may be over, but for the future, have you ever considered challenging a myth?”

Vespera was momentarily speechless.

At the hospital, Dominic was propped up in bed, handling work. When he paused for a sip of water, he casually asked, “How is she?”

“Are you asking about Ms. Glidon? She’s been discharged.”

Dominic furrowed his brows and looked up. Raymond noticed the displeasure on Dominic’s face and quickly added, “Well, she came by this morning. I think she wanted to see you, but there were other people in the room, so she didn’t go in.”

But after Raymond said that, Dominic’s expression seemed even more displeased.

Dominic’s tone was calm as he spoke, “So, she didn’t come in because there were people there? She’s clever; she knows how to avoid any misunderstandings.” His words sounded like compliments, but in his tone, it felt more like criticism.

Raymond couldn’t quite understand Dominic’s feelings, so he just smiled and said, “She’s just being considerate, thinking ahead.”

Dominic didn’t respond. After resting a bit, he went back to work. His expression remained unchanged, and his mood seemed as stable as ever. But Raymond noticed that Dominic was not in a great mood. He wondered if it was because Vespera didn’t come to see him.

From Raymond’s point of view, it was actually a good thing that she didn’t come in. Vespera was a woman of discretion. She wasn’t after anything, and she was just being considerate by not creating unnecessary gossip for Dominic.

He thought, “But what exactly is bothering Mr. Reid? Could it be…?” He stole a few glances at Dominic, his lips curling into a knowing smile.

The next morning, Vespera drove to the family court with the original divorce agreement in hand. She was scheduled to meet Luke at 10:00 am, and she arrived 15 minutes early. Luke arrived right on time. Noticing the bruise on her lips hadn’t fully healed, he instinctively reached out and rubbed the corner of her mouth. “Why hasn’t it healed yet?”

The suddenness of his action left Vespera no time to react. At first, she wanted to be angry, but noticing the bloodshot eyes, the stubble on his chin, and the lonely, melancholic expression on his face, her anger faded away.

“Let’s go,” she said.

“Okay,” Luke responded, but he still stood there.

Vespera decided to ignore him and walked into the family court by herself. Hearing his footsteps follow behind her, she relaxed. She was afraid he might change his mind and walk out.

The divorce procedure went smoothly and quickly. As they were both well-known figures, the family court staff immediately recognized Vespera. They signed the divorce papers, and there was no need for further mediation.

After leaving the family court, Luke handed her the divorce certificate. Vespera looked at it in confusion. “What do you want me to do with this? It’s yours.”

Luke replied, “You keep it.”

Vespera was speechless. She thought, “What? This is a divorce certificate, not a marriage certificate. Is he out of his mind?”

She hoped he could come to his senses. Surrounded by people, she managed to keep her composure. She pulled him aside and said, “If you ever get remanded, you’ll need this certificate. So—” She placed the certificate against his chest. “Mr. Munez, you’d better keep it.”
