Chapter 20
The door slammed open with a loud bang. The syringe that was about to pierce Vespera’s thigh froze in mid-air. The room full of men with twisted desires stared in terror at the door. They tried to flee, but before they could even take a few steps, security in black suits slammed them to the ground and dragged them out like stray dogs.
The scene was chaotic, with some of the men losing their towels and crawling on the floor naked. It was an intensely uncomfortable sight. The security team moved quickly, apprehending the men and swiftly handling the situation. No one dared to look at the bed.
The female supervisor, Wynne Cannon, who had entered with the security team, immediately covered Vespera’s body with a piece of clothing. She then untied her hands from the restraints and checked her condition. Afterward, she stepped out to report.
Dominic stood outside the door, his expression cold and unreadable. “How is she?”
Wynne replied, “Luckily, we arrived in time. She’s fine, but she’s a bit disoriented. She may have been traumatized.”
Dominic stepped into the room. Inside, everything was eerily silent. The woman on the bed curled up in his clothes. Her long hair, smooth and flowing like a cascade of clouds, was disheveled and scattered. Her face was pale, and blood tinged the corner of her mouth. Her body trembled uncontrollably.
At that moment, she seemed like a fragile rose crushed by a blizzard—beautiful, yet utterly broken. He leaned down, gently ruffling her cheek. The next moment, her soft cheek pressed against his fingers, her lace nuzzling into his palm.
As he tried to pull his hand away, her eyes slowly opened. She gazed up at him, her expression shifting from wary confusion to deep sadness, then to pleading. The look in her eyes resembled a wounded fawn, struggling to survive in the forest.
His heart stirred. He gently reached out with his other hand and softly patted her head. “It’s over now. No one will hurt you anymore.”
Vespera suddenly burst into tears. Her sobs came in waves, each tear falling into his hand like drops of rain. “Don’t cry.”
Dominic wasn’t used to situations like this, and he wasn’t good at comforting people. But the more he told her not to cry, the harder she sobbed.
The sound of her crying reached outside the room, and Raymond couldn’t help but feel a pang of sorrow. Wynne hadn’t left yet. Dominic turned to her and said, “Not a word of this leaves this room. If word gets out, it will be assumed that your hotel is responsible!”
Wynne quickly promised to keep everything confidential. She couldn’t afford to offend someone like Dominic, such a powerful and influential figure. With something like this happening at their hotel, they were already lucky not to face any consequences. There was no way she would dare to speak out.
Dominic picked up Vespera in his arms and took her out of the hotel through a back exit. On the way to the hospital, Vespera continued to cry. Her tears flowed uncontrollably, soaking the front of his shirt. Dominic sighed helplessly. He had no choice but to let her sit on his lap, holding her the entire time, letting her bury herself in his arms as she cried. He couldn’t just leave her alone, not in the state she was in. He had tried, having tears and snot all over his shirt.
She cried for over half an hour. He had to use up an entire pack of tissues just wiping away her tears. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, she had cried enough. Afterward, she quietly leaned against his shoulder, her eyes closed, as if she had fallen asleep.
As the car turned a corner, her body warped with the motion. Her face gently pressed against his neck, and her soft lips brushed against his. Dominic held his breath. His expression remained unchanged as he gently pushed her head back to its original position.
When they arrived at the hospital, Raymond was surprised. “Mr. Reid, why is your shirt so red? Are you feeling hot?” Dominic gave him a cold glare, clearly irritated. Raymond didn’t know why he was suddenly angry.
They had arrived at a private hospital. Preparations had been made in advance, so the nurses were already waiting by the entrance. As soon as Dominic stepped out of the car, they took over and immediately began escorting Vespera inside for her examination.
After Vespera went through all the examinations, it was already dawn when she was sent to the ward.
