Listen to this chapter:

Espera, Rebecca, and Tabj—Jade gave Calvert the address of the uncle’s house, located in Denfield Village. The GPS indicated an hour and 23 minutes travel time.

Calvert muttered under his breath, “I shouldn’t take this long for such a short distance.”

Hearing this, Vespera winced. “Calvert, drive carefully. No speeding?”

Calvert replied, “Vespera, last time you wanted me to drive faster, and now you want me to slow down. You’re so predictable.”

Vespera sighed. “You too, Tat. No one will be able to handle it.”

At that moment, Rebecca chimed in, “Oh, no, no. I’m perfectly fine with speed. It’s the slow and steady driving that’s annoying.”

Vespera and Calvert exchanged a glance. “You’d better be talking about driving.”

Rebecca blinked innocently, a sweet smile on her face. “Yeah, of course, I’m talking about driving.”

Reluctantly, Calvert took Vespera’s “strong suggestion” into account and started driving more steadily.

Along the way, Vespera sent a message to Felicia, asking her to find out if Claire had any old properties in the countryside around Ashford, or if any of her relatives had vacant houses in the countryside.

At that moment, Felicia was enjoying afternoon tea with her friends. When she saw the message, her excitement made her grip her phone tightly. She thought, “Could it be… could the boy’s body be hidden there?”

The thought of finally getting rid of Tina filled her with anticipation. She immediately replied, “I’ll find out right away.” Seeing how Felicia was now avoiding Tina like the plague, she couldn’t help but think of how Felicia used to treat Tina like a treasure. Everyone had to pay for their actions. She certainly had, and now it was Felicia’s turn.

Meanwhile, Rebecca took off her headphones and leaned over to Vespera, whispering in her ear, “They’re coming.”

Vespera’s eyes brightened. She thought, “That’s great.”

However, after everything had gone so smoothly, she couldn’t shake off a feeling of unease after the initial excitement.

An hour later, the car had been driving along the country roads for half an hour.

It was summer, and the fields were fresh and vibrant under the sun, almost as if they were covered in a filter. If it weren’t for the purpose of their trip, it would have been pleasant to relax.

But Vespera and Rebecca were not in the mood to enjoy the scenery. Once the car reached the country road, they kept their eyes trained on the outside, observing closely. Now they understood why Jade was so certain it was the countryside.

Along the way, they passed several ponds surrounded by fruit trees in some areas of the fields; the land wasn’t entirely flat. The terrain rose slightly in places, creating small mounds, and scattered small houses appeared here and there. Some were by the pond, others in the fields. Though they weren’t sure what these small houses were used for, they recorded the scenes Tim had described.

Jade had mentioned that the incident happened right after the final exams, just before summer vacation—timing that matched perfectly with the current season. Before they arrived, they had thought it would be a unique scene, making it harder to find. However, now it seemed to be an everyday sight in these rural areas, making the search even harder. It felt like trying to find a unique tree in a forest or spotting a tree that looked the same as the others. The task suddenly seemed much harder than expected.

After another 20 minutes of driving, they spotted a road sign with the name “Greenfield Village” written on it.

“Turn right ahead and go straight. The car can only be parked in the open area ahead. The roads in the village are too narrow for the car to get through,” Jade explained.

Following her directions, Calvert parked the car in the open area. As they got out, Vespera noticed several luxury cars parked at a distance. All of them were worth over a hundred thousand dollars. The people here in the village seemed quite wealthy.

Jade led them into the village. The layout was clear—divided into the north and south sides by a river, with stone bridges at intervals. The bridges were old, showing signs of age.

Jade guided them along the northern bank of the river. As they passed a house, a large wolf-dog suddenly charged out, barking furiously at them.
