Chapter 249

Vesper stood, cheer fading from her face. When she lowered her head and looked at the open bag, she gasped, her pupils trembling. Ultra-thin, ribbed, strawberry-flavored… What on earth was all this?

Her mind raced back. She saw herself in the convenience store, making a call in one hand and blindly grabbing things off the shelf like a lunatic. From the shelves to the basket, from the counter to the park, it was such a long journey, yet not once did she think to look inside the bag.

“I—I accidentally took them,” Vespera’s voice was weak as she bent down and buried the few boxes at the bottom of the bag. Then, she quickly tied it shut.

“Accidentally took them?” Dominic raised an eyebrow. “You accidentally took the wrong thing multiple times in a row?”

Vesper wanted to jump into the lake from sheer embarrassment. “The situation was a bit complicated at that time.”

Dominic asked, “How was it complicated? Did the convenience store only let customers shop blindfolded?”

Vespera was at a loss for words. She had no choice but to tell the truth. “I was on the phone and didn’t look at the shelves. I just grabbed things randomly.” Dominic caught on immediately. “So, the real reason you went to the store was to make a call!”

His eyes darkened as a chilly sensation filled the air. “Who were you talking to that had you so focused that you went blind?”

Vespera felt helpless. “It was Becca.”

Dominic snorted. He turned and gazed at the twinkling lights by the lakeshore without saying another word. He seemed to exude a cold demeanor. Vespera figured that Dominic was angry. She sat down next to him. She admitted that she had deliberately avoided him to make that call, but the worst part was how he ended up discovering those terrifying things in the bag.

The two gazed at the file for a while. Trying to lighten the mood, Vespera asked, “Mr. Reid, do you want some snacks? I bought chocolate.”

Dominic glanced at Vespera coldly. “Is it the one next to the strawberry-flavored one?”

Vespera felt numb. She thought, “Please stop bringing this up.”

She ignored the strawberry-flavored condom and asked, “How about a drink then? I bought several kinds. There’s also mineral water.”

Dominic asked, “Didn’t you thoughtfully get me some white wine too? I thought it was your way of compensating me for not drinking that Petrus from Mr. Muñoz.”

Vespera felt like she was being stabbed with invisible knives. She was immediately enraged. She grabbed a bottle of white wine, twisted the cap open, and handed it to Dominic. “That’s right. I did buy it for you as compensation. Go ahead and drink it.”

The strong smell of alcohol made Dominic frown. “Ms. Cildon, what do you gain by poisoning me?”

Vespera was at a loss for words. Poison? She snatched the bottle back and took a big swig, wanting to prove it was safe, and threw it right back at him. However, the moment the wine hit her throat, she felt a fiery wave burn its way from her throat to her lungs.

This wine was intense! Vespera believed that she had a great alcohol tolerance. At business dinners, she had white wine with a high alcohol percentage before. Nevertheless, she had never had anything hit this hard right away.

Vespera covered her mouth and started coughing. Meanwhile, Dominic reached out to gently pat her back. “Who told you to drink it? Are you alright?” Vespera waved her hand to say she was fine. “I tested it for you. This drink—you know what, you shouldn’t drink it. It’s kind of harsh on the throat.”

If anything happened to Dominic’s precious body, his parents would probably hang Vespera upside down at the entrance of Tavian Group. Dominic laughed. “At least, you still have a bit of a conscience.”

Then, Dominic reached across Vespera and grabbed the huge bag.

“What are you doing?”
