Chapter 28
Dominic was having his meal at the Cantari restaurant in the Peninsula Hotel. He wasn’t in a hurry and simply sat there, completely engrossed in his phone. A moment later, he smirked and let out a low chuckle in his deep, soothing voice.
“That’s quite bold,” he murmured.
Gerard, who was by his side, was just as intrigued. He gave an objective review: “This is more interesting than TV shows. Vespera is unexpectedly bold and clever.”
“Some people may be putting on a show, but she’s fighting back with everything she has,” Dominic said casually. He watched for a moment longer, then put his phone away.
They entered the elevator. Gerard pressed the button for the lower ground floor, only to hear Dominic say, “Should we see the live version of this interesting play?”
“Oh… Sure,” Gerard said with a wink. He didn’t have much of a choice.
At the banquet hall, Felicia was taken aback and looked at Tina in disbelief. She couldn’t believe Tina had used her as a shield.
“No! It’s not like that! I never forced her!” Felicia shouted. “She claimed she had ways to make Vespera sign the compensation agreement. That was the only reason I told her to meet me at the hotel.”
She explained nervously, “I thought she had hired them to scare her, but I didn’t expect her to go that far. All I wanted was for Vespera to sign the agreement.” Her words suggested she had been in on it with Tina.
“Mrs. Munoz! How could you say that?” Tina choked out, tears streaming down her face. “It was you! You told me Vespera was being a greedy bitch. You had a deal, to raise the compensation from ten million to fifteen million.”
She continued, “I felt sorry for you and Luke. That was the only reason I wanted to help! You told me you were afraid Luke might hate you for this, so I stepped up and contacted those people for you!”
“How could you say that? This is nonsense!” Felicia said, her fingers trembling as she pointed at Tina.
“Mrs. Munoz, I’m not speaking nonsense. For the sake of my future and Luke’s, just admit what you’ve done.”
Felicia was at a complete loss for words. Her chest tightened, and she felt like she was about to have a heart attack.
The Sole family finally caught on. Without any concern for right or wrong, they questioned why she had let Tina get involved. It was the only way for Tina to break free of the stubborn Felicia. They implied that Felicia was the main culprit and shifted all the blame onto her.
Felicia and the Munor family wouldn’t let them accuse her. They threw their dignity aside and started arguing with the Sole family.
The guests were all stunned. They had completely underestimated the intensity of this spectacle. The twists and turns that unfolded one after another made it quite a show.
Vespera was just as shocked as everyone else. She would never have expected Tina to backstab her future mother-in-law, especially right before getting engaged to Luke. The two of them bickered wildly.
Someone with an ego as big as his, he must feel completely shattered. Well, it was a fitting price to pay.
She glanced at Luke, curious about his reaction. He stood there, frozen. For some reason, she felt sorry for him.
“Vesper, I apologize. I’ll cover your treatment costs for your injuries and your STD. With today’s advancements in medicine, HIV could be cured!” Tina sobbed, her voice thick with regret.
Vespera turned to look at Bier, only to see Tina wiping away her insistent tears. Her face was a perfect mask of regret as she pleaded for forgiveness. But beneath it all, Vespera caught the sinister glint in her eye.
Tina wasn’t in the least afraid of being exposed for her crimes. Betraying her future mother-in-law meant nothing to her as long as she could spread the lie that Vespera had been toyed with and left to rot with HIV. It was certain that she was born evil.
“First of all, I won’t forgive you; I already called the cops. Second of all, sorry to disappoint, but a kind person saved me last night. The people you sent tailed me miserably. I don’t have any STDs, and I’m not dying, but you? You’re definitely going to jail,” Vespera retorted.
