It was unclear whether Dominic had done it intentionally, but he blocked Vespera from the crowd. The guests at the banquet could hear her voice, but they couldn’t see her expressions. A group of uniformed police officers entered through the doors. They approached the Manor and Sonde families and presented an arrest warrant. Moments later, Tina, Felicia, and Luke were taken into custody.
Tina wailed and sobbed, but the Sale family could do nothing. Vespera had both an eyewitness account and an audio recording. To make matters worse, Dominic had personally backed her up. At this point, the Munn and Sowle families had no choice but to contact their lawyers.
The bizarre, gripping spectacle had finally come to an end. The main actors were drained from their performance, and the audience had gotten their fill of excitement. In the coming week, the elite social circles of Halewick would no doubt be buzzing with discussions about that night’s dramatic events. It was a pity for those who had missed the opportunity to witness it firsthand.
As the night wound down, guests began leaving the banquet hall. Dominic also left with Gerard. Vespera deliberately waited for Dominic to leave before she stepped out of the lull. She didn’t have a cab right away and headed to the garden behind the hotel. She sank beneath a tree, utterly drained.
The dim garden lights cast a glow over her red dress, giving her an air of both allure and danger. She looked like someone who had returned from the dead to take their revenge. Since she had investigated everything thoroughly, she was aware of the mastermind’s identity and the accomplices involved. She knew Luke had played no part in it, and she knew Felicia had only cooperated with Tina when she lured her to the hotel. Yet, she had chosen to stay silent about it when she called the police.
She wanted them arrested and interrogated. She despised Luke, and this was what he deserved. The sound of footsteps approached her, accompanied by a sophisticated woody fragrance drifting through the air. She slowly lifted her head.
A veil-like glow from the grass reflected onto Dominic, carving sharp lines into his already chiseled side profile. His lowered gaze remained calm and showed no emotion. The darkness surrounding him made his stature seem even more imposing.
“You got your revenge. You should be happy. Why are you hiding here and zoning out?”
“I’m just tired.”
She wondered why he had followed her but kept the question to herself.
“If you’re tired, go home and get some rest,” he said after a brief silence.
“You’re right! I’ll head back immediately. Goodbye, Mr. Reid!” She stood up as soon as he finished speaking.
“Thank you for tonight!” she called over her shoulder, walking away quickly.
He remained silent and watched as she left. She hailed a cab and headed back to her new home. She didn’t drive today, so she entered the building through the lobby and into the elevator.
As the elevator door opened, she was completely stunned. Doanini was standing right there. She was startled but stepped inside anyway. As she pressed her fingers against the fingerprint lock, she lifted her head and smiled at him.
“Mr. Beid! You must be exhausted,” she said as she struggled to find something to say.
“Yes. I came back to sleep,”
“And so?” Lucask asked as he turned to her with a cool expression.
She frowned when she heard his question, unsure of what more to say next.
