Chapter 35

Dominic had said those words with a serious expression, but his demeanor remained relaxed.

“Are you saying I’m hired?” Vespera asked, taken aback by the sudden turn of events. She was about to leave for her trip, and now, she had just been hired.

“Aren’t you going on a trip?” Dominic responded, ignoring her question. He flashed a playful smile instead.

There was still time to cancel the trip since she hadn’t left yet. “I could cancel and come in anytime for work,” she answered, sitting upright. She would be a fool to let this opportunity slip.

“Anytime!” she confirmed.

“That’s why I said Eldoria was a bit too far.”

Dominic’s smile widened, and he exchanged a glance with Gerard. He had been listening to their conversation and immediately understood.

“Ms. Gildon, it’s great that you can come in for work today. I’ll share our business trip’s schedule once we’re on the plane.”

Vespera was still dazed by how things had unfolded. All she had done was carpool, and now she was being offered a job. It felt surreal, but she quickly adjusted to the situation. “Alright, since we have some time before we reach the airport, could you send me the schedule?”

“There’s no need to rush,” Gerard said with a chuckle, and she nodded.

As the conversation continued, her cell phone buzzed with multiple missed calls. She glanced at her phone and noticed that Rebecca had called several times. Turning to the side, she held her phone to her ear.

“Leke got a hold of your flight details and he’s rushing to the airport right now!” Rebecca’s voice sounded frantic.

Vespera listened silently.

“That bastard’s gone crazy! Vera, don’t look back and find somewhere to hide,” Rebecca warned.

“Got it. Let me think about it.” After the call ended, she pressed her hands against her forehead and looked out the window. She felt heartbroken and powerless, as if she had been pulled back into the depths of despair.

It was quiet in the car. Everyone had heard their conversation, but Dominic didn’t say a word.

“Don’t worry, Mr. Reid has a private plane. We could drive the car right into it, and he won’t be able to find you,” Raymond said, trying to reassure her.

“Really? That would be great.” Her face lit up almost immediately; she had forgotten that she was on a business trip with Dominic.

“You seem pretty happy about this,” Dominic commented.

She fell silent as his words fell.

Luke arrived at the airport but couldn’t find Vespera or her boarding information. He assumed she hadn’t boarded the plane, thinking she had changed her mind and left. Little did he know that she was on Dominic’s private plane. The cabin was spacious and comfortable, with fresh, clean air and a pleasant temperature.

As the plane took off, the sudden feeling of weightlessness gripped her heart like a pair of freezing hands. She moved closer to the window and gazed down at the terminal.

The thought of a furious Luke, his veins bulging as if he were about to kill someone, made her laugh. After a brief moment of amusement, she fell into her thoughts again.

Once the plane leveled out, the flight attendant served a hearty breakfast. Her appetite wasn’t great, so she ate a little. Afterward, she stared at the clouds outside the window. “If you’re this anxious, I don’t think we need to go through with your employment process,” said a cold voice across from her.
