Chapter 66
Vespera was small. It was bad enough that Luke was sabotaging her, but now Nancy was trying to take advantage of the situation, too. And it was just after she had given Nancy a graceful way out, saving her from embarrassment in front of Dominic… That was straight-up betrayal.
Dominic’s expression remained unreadable. The warmth in his striking, deep-set eyes faded, replaced by something much colder. He ignored everyone else in the room, his gaze fixed solely on Vespera. “Do you want to resign?”
“Of course not,” Vespera answered without hesitation. She was about to divorce Luke anyway. Even if she weren’t, he had no right to make that decision for her.
Luke’s face darkened. Nineshot her cold plate.
Meanwhile, a faint smile tugged at the corner of Dominic’s lips. “Good.” He checked his watch before glancing back at her. “The doctor said it’ll take at least a week for your leg to heal. You can return to Halewick to recover. I’ll arrange for a plane to take you back inst…”
Vespera shook her head. “There’s no need to make a special trip for me. I’ll return with everyone else!” It felt excessive to have a private jet make a special trip just for her.
Dominic’s smile deepened. “Alright, we’ll go back together then.” He told her to get some rest before leaving with Gerard.
Nancy lingered, as if she had something else to say, but when Dominic walked out, she hesitated for a few seconds before deciding to follow him. Before leaving, she shot Vespera one last venomous glance.
Vespera sighed internally. It was clear now—Nancy saw every single woman around Dominic as a potential threat.
Then, a furious voice suddenly snapped her out of her thoughts. “Vespera, are you seriously flirting with him right in front of me? Do you think I’m dead?”
The outburst started… She turned to look at Luke, who was fuming with rage. She had forgotten there was still a certain someone here throwing a tantrum.
“Mr. Munoz, keep your voice down. This is a hospital.”
“Don’t call me Mr. Munoz!”
Vespera smiled sweetly, then lay back down and pulled the blanket over her head. “Alright then, Mr. Luke, please get out and stay out of my sight.”
Luke was so angry that his chest hurt. Yet, there was nothing he could do. He sat silently at the edge of the bed, staring at his wife, who refused to acknowledge his presence. It felt like his heart was being squeezed in a vise.
Vespera stayed in the hospital for three days. And for three days, Luke never left her side. No matter how much she tried to chase him away or how thoroughly she ignored him, he refused to budge, shamelessly sticking around. During that time, his phone rang nonstop. Some calls he answered, but most he rejected outright.
Vespera wondered, “Did the Bowle family manage to get Tina out?” It wasn’t impossible. If Luke had been released so quickly, it meant the Munoz family’s legal team had worked their magic. The Sowle family’s lawyers were just as formidable.
That afternoon, she took the opportunity to go into the bathroom, lock the door, and call Rebecca. “Vera, where are you? Did Luke find you?” Rebecca asked as soon as the call connected. “I’m in Seloria. And yes, he found me…”
