Chapter 95

Enke caressed Vespera’s face and said, “Let’s go somewhere else.”

However, she slapped him hard across the face. With a trembling voice filled with anger, she exclaimed, “You’re a shameless bastard! I must have been blind to ever be with you!”

If only she could turn back time, she would’ve ended their relationship the day it began.

Rage filled Luke’s eyes, and each word she uttered ignited a new spark of anger within him. “Are you regretting being with me now? Well, that’s a bit too late. You’re already mine, and as long as I keep you here with me, you can never leave!”

“How can you be so heartless? You cheated on me! You neglected me! You hurt me! So, why the hell do you still want to torment me?” Vespera yelled.

Her emotions fell into disarray. The weight of everything she had endured utterly shattered her.

Tears spilled down her cheeks, relentless and unchecked, as if they had a will of their own.

They had fought against all odds to get married, but now, they were fighting more than ever to get a divorce.

What sins had she committed in her past life to deserve a life like this?

“Don’t cry, Darling, please, don’t cry. It’s all my fault.” A sharp pain stabbed through his chest, and it felt like someone had driven a knife into his heart. “I deserve to die. I was bewitched. I never wanted to torment you. I just don’t want you to leave.”

Vespera suddenly fell silent.

She looked at him with teary eyes. Perhaps it was the overwhelming emotions, or maybe the eerie silence of the mountains had messed with her mind, but all she knew was that she was completely exhausted, frustrated, and even hopeless. “Would you only stop if I…?”

Luke was momentarily lost for words. His hand hovered by her cheek as he stared at her. He couldn’t find the right answer.

From the moment he gave in to Tina’s temptation and took that first wrong step, their fate had been sealed. Like a domino castle, painstakingly built yet destined to collapse the second the first piece was pushed, their marriage was always meant to end in ruins.

The situation defied comprehension; everything was beyond a catastrophe.

The two of them sat in silence, staring at each other for a long time. Neither spoke a single word; it was as if all their energy had been drained.

At some point, Vespera finally broke the silence by saying, “I’m hungry. I want to eat something.”

Still weighed down by his emotions, Luke responded, “I’ll go get you something.”

But as he was ready to step out of the car, he realized the harsh reality of their situation. They were in a desolate location with nowhere to buy food. Even worse, their car was totally out of gas.

Even if I wanted to…

Vespera noticed his hesitation and said, “My leg hasn’t fully healed, and you’ve made it worse just now. I can’t run even if…”

Luke never gave her a further explanation. “I’ll look around and see if there’s a convenience store nearby. Just stay in the car and wait for me.”

She barely had the strength to respond anymore, so she faintly muttered a simple “Okay.”

Luke got out of the car and locked the door behind him. Navigating the map on his phone, he found that the nearest convenience store was about a half-hour walk away.

He searched for a contact number, hoping they would have a delivery service. Unfortunately, after scrolling for a while, he found nothing.

Delivery services were out of the question; everything was far beyond their range. The only option was the convenience store he had just found.

At the very least, he knew everything was his fault, so he had no right to complain.

Vespera watched him disappear into the distance. As soon as he was out of sight, she crawled to the back seat, folded down the rear seats, and crawled into the trunk to escape using the emergency release.

Her wound had indeed been pressed, but wasn’t that serious. Aside from not being able to run, she could walk just fine.

She went in the opposite direction as quickly as she could, and about 20 minutes later, the pain in her leg began to flare up. If she kept going, the wound might reopen, and there was a possibility she wouldn’t be able to walk anymore.

She glanced up the mountain beside her. Maybe she should hide there for a while?

She had been sharing her location with Rebecca all along. There was a good chance she was already nearby.

With that in mind, she slowly made her way up the hill, choosing a dense patch of vegetation to hide in. She pinged her location to Rebecca and placed a call to her.

Rebecca, on the other end, did a quick estimation and predicted she could reach her in about 15 minutes. In the meantime, she instructed her to stay put and not wander away.

Upon hanging up, Vespera wrapped her arms around her knees and looked up, slowly losing herself in the sky full of stars.

The darkness wound her in its endless embrace.

A mixture of bitterness, wrath, and a little absurdity settled within her as she sighed quietly. Approximately ten minutes later, the sound of footsteps slowly approached. She looked up immediately, knowing that Rebecca couldn’t possibly have arrived that quickly. So, who on earth could that person be?
