Anastasia had just sent Cassian off after his assistant had called with some urgent company documents that needed his immediate attention. Although neither of them wanted to part, Cassian had no choice but to leave. He’d kissed her forehead softly before driving away.
Anastasia felt all warm and fuzzy inside, like someone had spilled honey all through her chest. Just as she was about to head back to the hospital room, she spotted Garthan coming toward her.
Garthan’s face lit up when he saw Anastasia unexpectedly. He quickened his pace and hurried over to greet her. “Anastasia! What a coincidence running into you here.”
Anastasia was surprised to see Garthan, then remembered that Tamia had mentioned he’d returned from studying abroad and was working at a hospital in New York, though she’d never asked which one. She’d never been particularly interested in Garthan anyway, so she hadn’t paid much attention to the details. What a weird coincidence that he worked at this hospital.
“Yeah, pretty random,” Anastasia said coolly.
“What brings you to the hospital? Are you feeling okay?” Garthan asked with concern.
Anastasia shook her head. “No, my grandmother fell and hurt herself. She’s staying here for observation.”
Garthan’s expression grew serious. “Elderly patients are different from young people–their bodies take longer to heal. When older folks fall, it can be anything from minor to really serious.”
“Want me to take a look at her?”
Anastasia was about to decline, but then thought about it–Garthan was supposedly a skilled doctor, so it couldn’t hurt to get another opinion.
The two of them were walking down the corridor when a familiar figure appeared coming toward them…
