Chapter 167

Sonia happened to be at the hospital getting her dressings changed.

Jenny was clutching her chest, still shaken as she stared at Sonia wrapped in bandages. “Holy shit, you scared the hell out of me! Thank God there are no cameras in this hallway. If anyone had caught you pushing that cart, we’d be so screwed.”

Jenny massaged her temples, feeling like everything had been going sideways lately. Maybe she should drag Sonia to some kind of spiritual cleansing to shake off this bad luck.

Sonia’s mouth twisted into a satisfied smirk, her eyes gleaming with malice. “Just you wait. After what that bitch did to me, I’m gonna kick back and enjoy the show this time.”

Jenny gave her a worried look. “Please tell me you’re not about to do something stupid.”

Sonia waved her off. “Chill out. I swear, nothing’s gonna blow back on me this time.”

Jenny still looked anxious watching her.

Anastasia brought Garthan to Elisabeth’s room and introduced him.

Garthan was all professional charm as he greeted Elisabeth, then looked over her CT scans.

“So what’s the verdict on my grandma, Garthan?”

Garthan put on his serious doctor voice. “Nothing major, but at her age, healing takes way longer than it would for someone younger. She really needs someone keeping an eye on her. Bone and tissue injuries like this take about three months to fully heal. You absolutely have to stay off that foot – don’t try to get up and move around, or you could end up with serious complications.”

Elisabeth was totally buying into his professional spiel and went quiet for a moment.

Garthan shot Anastasia a look that basically said, Nailed it, right?

Anastasia turned to her grandmother. “See, Grandma? Doctor’s orders – you have to take it easy.”

Elisabeth nodded obediently. “Fine, fine, I’ll be a good patient and stay put. I need to be in good shape to help with your babies anyway. My future great-grandbabies are gonna be gorgeous – beautiful skin, bright eyes, just perfect little angels.”

Garthan’s smile completely died, and he looked like he’d swallowed something sour.

These two are way too smart for their own good, he thought. That was definitely a message for me.

He cleared his throat awkwardly. “Well, if everything’s good here, I should get back to my rounds.”

Anastasia offered, “I can walk you out.”

“Nah, I’m good, thanks.“

Garthan basically bolted from the room.

Anastasia and Elisabeth looked at each other, and Elisabeth gave her a cheeky wink. “Sweetheart, some men are nothing but trouble disguised as romance. Can’t let them mess up your happiness.”

Anastasia had to laugh. Her grandmother was basically calling Garthan a walking red flag.

Elisabeth might be getting up there in years, but she could read people like a book.

“I hear you loud and clear, Grandma.”

Right then, Anastasia’s phone buzzed. She glanced at the screen – Lancey calling.

“Hey Mom.”

“Ana, honey, why don’t you come back to the estate for dinner tonight?”

Something in Lancey’s tone felt off, and Anastasia suddenly had a bad feeling about this.
