Chapter 191
“Oh God, this hurts so bad…” Valeria cried out and then collapsed.
As she fell, she expected someone to catch her, but instead she hit the ground hard with nobody giving a shit. The little rocks were digging into her back – it fucking hurt. But Valeria didn’t dare move because she was playing dead. If Cassian found out she was the one who’d sabotaged Anastasia’s horse, she was pretty sure she’d end up actually dead. So might as well fake it now.
“Someone should take her to a hospital – she’s pregnant,” Anastasia said flatly.
Even though she couldn’t care less about Valeria, there was a baby involved. If something happened at Griffin’s facility, it could cause problems for him.
“Are you fucking kidding me?!” Griffin’s voice shot up. “She’s pregnant and didn’t mention it? Then why the hell was she riding? Does she have a death wish?!”
Despite his complaints, Griffin arranged to have Valeria taken to the hospital.
“We should go too,” Cassian told Anastasia.
Anastasia looked at him confused. Why would Cassian want to get involved? This had nothing to do with them. She really didn’t want to deal with Valeria’s drama.
“Cassian, you taking responsibility for this?” Yinsen asked.
Cassian didn’t answer – Yinsen was totally missing the point. Anastasia looked at Cassian questioningly.
Under his wife’s gaze, Cassian explained, “I actually have shares in this place.”
Anastasia couldn’t help muttering under her breath, “So you’re the biggest con artist here.”
Cassian definitely heard what she said and was trying not to laugh. He pretended not to hear. “What was that?”
Anastasia looked at him and smiled awkwardly. “Oh, nothing.”
Remembering something, Anastasia turned to Sharlene. “You should head home. Thanks for coming with me today.”
Sharlene bit her lip and shook her head. “No way, I can’t leave. I’m a witness to everything that happened today. I need to go to the hospital in case that shameless bitch tries to frame you – I can testify for you.”
Anastasia was touched, but there were plenty of witnesses and evidence around, so Sharlene didn’t need to worry.
“Just go home. I’ll be fine,” Anastasia told her.
Sharlene was still hesitating.
Cassian said to Sharlene, “All your expenses today are on the company.”
“Um, does that include food?” Sharlene asked carefully.
“Yes.”
“Then I’m getting lunch first!” Sharlene took off running.
She’d been eyeing the café’s food all day – it looked delicious and now she could finally try it!
“Capitalism wins again,” Anastasia joked.
But Cassian wasn’t laughing. He was frowning at her injured arm, reaching out to touch it. The moment he made contact, Anastasia hissed in pain.
Cassian immediately pulled his hand back, looking guilty. “Does it hurt really bad?”
Anastasia shook her head. “It’s okay, just stings a little. Should heal up pretty quick.”
“Mm-hmm.”
The second she finished talking, Cassian scooped her up in his arms.
“I meant we’re going to the hospital so I can get your wounds properly treated.”
“Oh.” Anastasia’s eyes went shy.
Worried about falling, she quickly wrapped her arms around Cassian’s neck, making them not okay!
