Chapter 193

Megan didn’t bother getting the facts straight – she was convinced Anastasia had attacked Valeria out of jealousy.

“You barren bitch, jealous of someone else having a baby?!”

Megan raised her hand to slap Anastasia.

But Anastasia was ready for it. When the slap came, she simply stepped aside and dodged it.

Megan’s hand froze in mid-air, stunned.

She frowned in confusion. How dare Anastasia, who used to be so submissive, actually dodge her?

“Anastasia!” After snapping back to reality, Megan glared at her with pure hatred, her eyes like daggers.

Anastasia knew exactly what Megan was thinking.

Back when she’d been trying to stay with Jasper, she’d been the perfect obedient daughter-in-law around Megan.

But all that self-betrayal had gotten her what? Nothing but Megan’s contempt!

Now that she had nothing to do with Jasper anymore, she could finally be true to herself.

She swore she’d never compromise herself for anyone else again.

“Mrs. Hale, let me give you some advice – don’t go throwing hands before you know what actually happened. You might hit the wrong person and regret it.”

“Look at her! Who’s giving her the nerve to act so defiant in front of me?!” Megan snarled, grinding her teeth so hard they might crack.

Jasper frowned, looking at Anastasia with displeasure.

Even though part of him wanted to defend her, he believed younger people should be humble and obedient around their elders.

This new version of Anastasia was clearly beyond his control, which really bothered him.

“Anastasia! Apologize to my mother!” Jasper said coldly.

Anastasia gave him an icy look, completely devoid of warmth.

Jasper’s heart skipped a beat, hit by a wave of complicated emotions he couldn’t name.

“I didn’t do anything wrong, so why should I apologize? Valeria knew she was pregnant and chose to ride anyway. How is that my fault?”

“A grown man and an old woman ganging up on a young lady – have you no shame?”

Cassian’s eyes darkened as he radiated this oppressive energy that seemed to drop the temperature around them.

Seeing Cassian suddenly appear, both Jasper and Megan were momentarily speechless.

“They never had any shame to begin with,” Anastasia told Cassian, her tone almost playful.

Seeing Anastasia had stood up, Cassian immediately went over and scooped her back into his arms. “Why are you standing? You should be resting.”

“It’s fine. There are too many toxic people here making the air poisonous. I want to go home.”

Cassian said gently, “Alright, let’s go home.”

Jasper felt a sharp pain in his chest watching Anastasia be so intimate with Cassian.

This indescribable feeling rose up in him, like his most precious possession had been stolen.

He took a step forward, instinctively wanting to follow them.

Cassian suddenly stopped and said coldly, “I will get to the bottom of what happened today.”

His voice was so cold it sent chills down their spines.

Jasper and Megan exchanged glances, their hearts pounding, but they were confused. What did Cassian mean?

What happened today? What was he talking about?

Just then, a doctor emerged from the ER. “Family of Valeria Kingsley?”

Megan grabbed Jasper’s sleeve. “Jasper, the doctor’s calling for you.”

Jasper snapped back to reality, watching Anastasia and Cassian walk away feeling like something was missing from his chest.

He stiffly turned toward the doctor. “I’m her… boyfriend.”

The word “boyfriend” was incredibly difficult to say.

The doctor nodded. “The patient experienced some bleeding and her condition isn’t great, but we’ve stabilized her for now.”

“But I strongly advise you not to put her through any more stress. Take proper care of her. If something like this happens again, no one will be able to save her – we could lose both mother and baby.”

Megan swayed on her feet, nearly collapsing.

Jasper quickly caught her. “Mom.”

Megan gripped his hand tightly, muttering, “The baby… nothing can happen to the baby!”
