Chapter 247

Nicole never expected to run into someone even more ruthless than her in America, but with no cards left to play against Cassian, she had no choice but to slink away with her tail between her legs.

Before leaving, she couldn’t resist one last parting shot. “Rhodes, if anything happens to my…”

“I don’t waste my time on losers,” Cassian replied flatly.

With that, he carried Ana away from the precinct.

It was only after Cassian and Ana had been gone for a while that his security team finally pulled back.

Nicole knew she’d lost today–lost big time.

Jasper stood there in a daze, watching Cassian carry Ana away. Deep in his gut, he had this sinking feeling that this was it. Once Ana walked away this time, he’d never get another chance.

He reached out desperately, grasping at empty air, but there was nothing to hold onto.

His eyes burned with unshed tears. He crouched down, wrapped his arms around his knees, and started sobbing like a broken man.

Suddenly, he sensed someone standing over him, but he couldn’t bring himself to look up.

“Get up, you pathetic excuse for a man!” Megan Miller’s voice cut through the air like a whip.

Hearing his mother’s voice, Jasper’s head snapped up. His face was twisted with anger. “Why? Why didn’t you make the call? And why did you lie to me?”

Megan stared at her son like he’d lost his mind. It was one thing for him to get drunk and make a fool of himself, but she wasn’t about to join his pity party.

“That favor is worth its weight in gold. No way in hell I’m wasting it on some trash like Anastasia,” she said coldly. “Now that you’ve sobered up, you’re coming home with me. Stop making a scene. Your father’s enemies are already having a field day with his scandals. Unless you want to hand them more ammunition, get your ass in the car!”

Her words hit Jasper like a bucket of ice water. The harsh reality sobered him up completely.

He followed behind his mother in stunned silence and got into the car.

Still feeling bitter, he couldn’t help but say, “Cassian came for her. He was willing to go to war with the Donovans just to get Ana out of there.”

Megan was starting the engine when she heard this. Her hands paused for a moment.

Then she let out a mocking laugh. “And here I thought the Rhodes family had finally produced someone with brains. Turns out he’s just another lovesick fool.”

Jasper fell silent.
