Chapter 65
Cassian was back from his business trip, but he hadn't even gone home first—he came straight here. He’d been trying to call Anastasia all day, and nobody was picking up. Cassian was getting worried, so he had Philips look into Patricia’s birthday party.
Cassian suddenly felt a tightness in his chest. Patricia’s birthday party—why hadn’t Anastasia told him about it? They were married, weren’t they? It seemed like Anastasia still hadn’t settled into being a wife. Did she think their marriage was just some kind of joke? The thought made Cassian’s expression darken.
He had Philips put together some expensive gifts and headed straight to the Kingsley estate. Philips had mentioned that Patricia had always been good to Anastasia, so naturally, Cassian respected the old woman too.
When Cassian arrived, he walked directly into the main hall. Everyone was absolutely stunned to see him. Cassian Rhodes, the most powerful man in New York, showing up at Patricia’s birthday party? How much influence did this old lady have?
Obviously, Patricia was shocked too. What had she done to deserve this kind of attention? She never would have dreamed of having any connection to Cassian Rhodes!
Patricia quickly stood up. “Mr. Rhodes! Welcome, welcome! What an honor!”
Cassian spoke politely. “Mrs. Kingsley, wishing you health and happiness.” He then presented the elegant gift boxes he’d brought—premium French champagne, rare vintage wine, imported Swiss chocolates, luxury spa vouchers, and a stunning Hermes silk scarf. It was short notice, so he hadn’t had time to prepare more.
“Thank you so much! Having you here is such an honor! These gifts are way too generous,” Patricia said excitedly.
“Sorry for the short notice. I hope you like them,” Cassian replied courteously.
When Sharpson first spotted Cassian, his eyes lit up. Holy shit, when did he ever get the chance to meet someone this powerful? Today was incredibly lucky.
Sharpson rushed over with a huge smile plastered on his face: “Mr. Rhodes! Having you here brings…”
Cassian nodded slightly, but his eyes were scanning the room, like he was looking for something. His tone was casual. “You’re too kind, Mr. Kingsley. I was just in the area and wanted to wish Mrs. Kingsley a happy birthday.”
Hearing that made Sharpson even more excited. Someone like Cassian Rhodes personally coming to wish Patricia happy birthday—this was huge. He quickly had the staff bring refreshments, fawning over him. “Mr. Rhodes, can I get you anything to drink?”
But Cassian waved him off, his tone cool. “Don’t worry about it. By the way, where’s Anastasia?” He asked directly.
Actually, part of why he’d come was to send a message to the Kingsley family. He’d heard Sharpson was a deadbeat who’d abandoned Anastasia and her mother. If he dared to mistreat Anastasia, Cassian would make sure he regretted it.
“Anastasia?” Sharpson looked confused for a moment, then it clicked. “Oh right, right! Ann was just here. I’ll have someone go find her.”
But Sharpson’s mind was racing with questions. Why would Cassian suddenly ask about Anastasia? Was there some connection between them? Sharpson was getting a really bad feeling about this…
