Chapter 92
The atmosphere in the private dining room instantly became livelier. Everyone exchanged knowing smiles. Cassian, famous for his self-control, rarely showed emotion in public.
“Damn, Cassian’s totally whipped!” one business partner laughed. “Never thought I’d see the day!”
Cassian didn’t seem bothered, taking a sip of his tea with calm amusement. “Having someone who cares enough to worry about you isn’t a bad thing.”
Another partner raised his glass with a grin. “So that was the missus on the phone! Here’s to you, Cassian—to a happy marriage and even more success!”
Cassian raised his glass in response, his tone casual but pleased. “Thanks.”
After a few more rounds and wrapping up business, Cassian headed out. Just as he was about to return to the office, his phone rang. It was Sonia, and she sounded panicked.
“Cassian, I… someone’s been following me. I’m so scared…” Her voice was shaking.
Cassian’s expression grew serious. He considered sending his assistant, Philips, to check it out, but remembered he’d sent him on another urgent matter. So Cassian had his driver take him there instead.
Sonia’s apartment wasn’t far from the restaurant. When he arrived, he found Jenny pacing nervously by the elevator.
“Mr. Rhodes,” Jenny called out anxiously when she saw him.
Cassian nodded briefly. “What exactly happened?”
Someone bold enough to stalk her in broad daylight?
Jenny hesitated, looking troubled. “Sonia’s been rehearsing a lot lately, and she keeps feeling like someone’s watching her. But when she looks around, no one’s there. I had a business meeting today and wasn’t with her, and that’s when this happened…”
Jenny looked guilty. “Mr. Rhodes, could you please calm her down? She’s been on edge, and today really spooked her.”
Cassian said nothing, just walked to the apartment door and knocked. “Sonia, it’s me.”
The door flew open before he’d even finished speaking. Before Cassian could react, Sonia threw herself into his arms. She was genuinely terrified, and hearing his voice had given her an instant sense of safety.
Sonia buried her face against his chest, her eyes red-rimmed from crying. She was wearing a silk robe, her hair loose and damp, no makeup, looking pale and vulnerable. She’d just gotten out of the shower and smelled faintly of body wash rather than perfume.
Cassian’s body tensed slightly, his brow furrowing at her unexpected move. He looked down at her clinging to him and gently but firmly steadied her. “Sonia, let go.”
But she only held on tighter, her voice breaking. “Cassian, I was so scared… this person kept following me, and I… I didn’t know what to do…”
“What exactly happened?” Cassian moved her away from him.
Sonia looked stunned, tears in her eyes. “You… you never used to be like this with me.”
Chapter 93
I’m married now, Sonia. We need to keep appropriate boundaries, Cassian said matter-of-factly.
Sonia froze like she’d been struck by lightning. What? Did I hear that right? Cassian’s married? To who? That bitch Anastasia?
After being pushed away, tears immediately spilled down Sonia’s cheeks. She looked up at him with pure hurt in her eyes.
“You’re joking, right? How could you get married so suddenly? Is it because your mom was pressuring you, so you just found some random woman?” The news was devastating her.
