Chapter 1000

But things like that were easier said than done.

Lost in thought, Joseph drifted off.

The caretaker stood by, looking a bit uneasy. โ€œSir, is there anything you need me to do?โ€

She had taken quite a sum from Judy, and just standing around doing nothing made her feel uncomfortable.

She was an honest woman, so to feel more at ease, she wanted to keep herself busy.

That finally brought Joseph back to his senses.

He glanced at her plain, simple face and gave a slight nod. โ€œAlright, pour me a glass of water.โ€

He could tell she wasnโ€™t someone who liked being idle.

Since she was here now, might as well let it be.

Once he was fully recovered, heโ€™d settle the score with everyone.

But over on Auroraโ€™s side, after injuring Joseph, she felt absolutely no guilt.

She knew Lucas would take care of everything and make sure no evidence was left behind.

She had full confidence in his efficiency.

When Aurora arrived at Walton Corporation, she was immediately summoned to Graceโ€™s office.

She froze in her seat, giving no response.

It wasnโ€™t that she didnโ€™t want to goโ€“she just didnโ€™t know how to face her mother.

Ever since they parted ways at the villa, the thought of sharing a room with her and pretending to play out some sentimental mother-daughter scene made Aurora sick to her stomach.

And yet, she was the one whoโ€™d suffered the most. Had anyone ever cared about how she felt?

Just picturing it made her heart turn cold.

And now Grace was calling her into the office again.

Aurora instinctively assumed Tessa would be there too.

She didnโ€™t want to witness another fake display of motherly affection between them.

Better to stay out of it altogether.

Aurora smiled and nodded at the messenger. โ€œLet Madam Grace know Iโ€™m swamped with work and really canโ€™t step away right now.

โ€œIโ€™ll go see her once Iโ€™m done.โ€

The staff member looked a little troubled.

He scratched the back of his head and said awkwardly, โ€œBut Madam Grace told me I have to bring you over no matter what.

โ€œShe also said sheโ€™d be waiting in her office, and that she really does have something to discuss with you.โ€

Aurora was a little surprised.

She hadnโ€™t expected her mother to anticipate her excuse so precisely.

Even the words she planned to use had already been countered.

Looking at the messengerโ€™s uneasy face, Aurora sighed.

Then she stood up and said, โ€œAlright, Iโ€™ll go with you. No need to look so distressed.โ€

The staffer immediately lit up, clearly relieved.

He hadnโ€™t let the chairwoman down.

Still, he couldnโ€™t help wondering.

How did she know for sure Aurora would use work as an excuse to avoid coming?

Well, no surpriseโ€“they were mother and daughter after all.

Finally, he opened the office door and smiled. โ€œMadam Grace said if you came, you could go right in.โ€

Aurora dropped her blank expression and gave a small nod.

She stepped forward and walked in without hesitation.

The staffer exhaled in relief as she entered.

This job really wasnโ€™t easy.

The two of them acted just like a mother and daughter caught in a cold war.
