Chapter 1018

Albert wiped at his temple, though there wasnโ€™t a drop of sweat there, and didnโ€™t know what to say.

Grace continued for him, โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong? Cat got your tongue? How about thisโ€“if you wonโ€™t speak, Iโ€™ll help you out. When we were throwing harsh words at your wife just now, you were upstairs like a coward, hiding and watching.โ€

She glanced past him at Julian, whose eyes darted around like a childโ€™s. She added, โ€œOh right, and you were protecting your little fool of a son. Such noble fatherly love. Honestly, Iโ€™d almost say youโ€™re a great dad.โ€

At first, it almost sounded like praise. But then Graceโ€™s tone sharpened suddenly, her voice cutting through the air. โ€œBut youโ€™re definitely not a good husband.โ€

She pointed at Carol, whose face was expressionless on the floor. โ€œIs this how you treat your wife?โ€

Albertโ€™s face flushed red and pale all at once under her barrage. He was, after all, a wellโ€“known figure in Ravenshore. And now he was being publicly scolded like this? If word got out, where would his dignity go?

โ€œMadam Grace,โ€ Albert said, his voice suddenly lower. โ€œIโ€™m calling you that to remind you that weโ€™re still in Ravenshore. Leave some room for civility now, or no one will offer you a hand when you need one in the future.โ€

But Grace was completely unfazed. She signaled her assistant, who brought over a thick stack of documents and laid them out on the table. โ€œThese are all the projects weโ€™ve collaborated on over the years. Take a look.โ€

Grace didnโ€™t bother entertaining his veiled threats. Getting caught in a cycle of defending herself would only make todayโ€™s visit pointless. Quick and cleanโ€“that was the way to handle this. As for this old fox, Grace knew his character far too well.

Albert looked at the stack of contracts and felt his heart jolt hard. He had thought Grace was just bluffing. He didnโ€™t expect her to actually mean it this time. She was actually serious? Albertโ€™s face darkened completely, his expression turning downright ugly.

โ€œSoโ€ฆ you really mean this?โ€

Tessa nearly burst out laughing beside them. At this point, did this man, who almost became her future fatherโ€“inโ€“law, still think her mother was joking?

Grace just shook her head. โ€œWeโ€™ve come this far, and youโ€™re still in denial? I already warned you. I told you to be prepared for my return. Did you really think Iโ€™d let this go without a proper resolution?โ€

Albert was shaken by the sudden force of her presence. He genuinely hadnโ€™t expected to feel such a commanding aura from a woman. Looking at Graceโ€™s expression, he finally realized she wasnโ€™t bluffing.

He had no choice but to force a smile. โ€œMadam Grace, how about we talk things through again?โ€ All his years of effort and investment were tied up in this; how could he accept losing everything just like that?

But Grace wasnโ€™t buying it. โ€œThereโ€™s nothing left to talk about between us.โ€ She pulled Tessa forward, her tone filled with grief and anger. โ€œSheโ€™s still so young, and your son did this to her. What do you expect her to do after this? Has anyone ever thought about how she feels?โ€
