Chapter 103
On the other side, Lucas gently settled Aurora into the passenger seat before sliding into the driverโs seat himself. He looked at her with warm eyes, but beneath that gentleness was a deep ache.
They were seated too close, and this man โ dangerously handsome โ made Auroraโs cheeks flush red.
โY-Youโฆ stay away from me.โ
But Lucas leaned in closer, nearly pressing himself against her.
โIโm sorry, Rora. I let you down.โ
His voice carried deep guilt. It had been his oversight that led to Aurora getting hurt.
No one knew that the moment he stepped in and saw her surrounded by those men, blood staining her lips, a savage fury tore through him. He wanted to kill every single one of them for laying a hand on her.
Thankfully, his girl had held on until he arrived. Still, Lucas couldnโt forgive himself. He hated that he hadnโt come earlier. If he had, maybe that slap wouldnโt have landed on her face. How had she even made it through those minutes alone?
โItโs okay. Iโm fine, arenโt I? Donโt blame yourself. Iโm not angry with you.โ
Lucas suddenly felt something soft on his head. It was a gentle hand ruffling his hair. He looked up, stunned, meeting Auroraโs gaze.
At first, Aurora thought nothing of it โ she just wanted to comfort him. But the moment their eyes met, she felt awkward. Clearing her throat, she started to pull her hand back.
But Lucas caught her wrist. And in the next second, his lips were on hers.
This time, the kiss felt different from usual. Lucas was gentle, his lips softly pressed against Auroraโs, lingering on the surface without rushing in, as if savoring the moment.
Under this tender assault, Aurora slowly melted. She couldnโt help but part her lips slightly. Lucas seized the opportunity and deepened the kiss. Releasing her wrist, he wrapped his arms tightly around her slender waist, pulling her even closer. Her anxious heart gradually calmed under his touch.
Two restless souls slowly drew closer in that momentโฆ
Back home, Lucas carried Aurora inside. She felt a bit embarrassed and whispered, โI can walk by myself. You donโt have to carry me.โ
โI like carrying my wife,โ Lucas said with a smile, clearly in a good mood.
Aurora pursed her lips but didnโt insist. Fine, if someone wanted to pamper her, sheโd enjoy it. There was no need to walk on her own.
Lucas gently placed her on the bed, then headed to the bathroom to run a bath. He carefully adjusted the temperature until the tub was filled with warm water.
He returned and lifted Aurora into his arms again, heading toward the bathroom. Auroraโs eyes widened slightly. โHow did you know I wanted a bath?โ
โMrs. Carter, Iโm your husband. Of course I can tell.โ
Aurora smiled faintly and relaxed, happily enjoying his attentive care. Still, deep down, Aurora felt a bit embarrassed and tried to shoo Lucas away. โAlright, I can handle the rest myself.โ
Wrapped in a towel, she couldnโt even look him in the eye. But Lucas didnโt seem fazed at all. His tone was casual. โWeโre practically a married couple. Thereโs nothing I havenโt seen.โ
Auroraโs face turned bright red. She raised her hand, trying to push him out of the bathroom. But Lucasโ expression suddenly darkened. He grabbed her wrist, gently tracing the faint red marks on her skin.
โThey did this to you?โ
