Chapter 1031
She gave a shy nod, quietly agreeing.
Kennethโs lips curved into a pleased smile, his steps toward the bedroom suddenly lighter.
That old sayingโnothing lifts the spirit like a stroke of good fortuneโcouldnโt have been more fitting for him in that moment.
While the two of them were basking in satisfaction, over at the hospital, Joseph was storming with frustration.
With a single slap, he knocked the tray of food off the table, sending it crashing to the floor. He had heard the impatience in Judyโs voice, no doubt about it. He just didnโt want to admit it.
His emotions spiraledโfrom sullen to furious. Where had it all gone wrong? Everything used to be so good. Judy had always been on his side. He used to turn to her first for anything, and she would always be there. But now, her mind seemed to be somewhere else entirely.
Joseph sprang out of bed, ripping out the IV, ready to storm out. The moment his feet touched the ground, a sharp pain sliced through his head. Clutching his temples, he fell back onto the bed. The clarity heโd had just moments before dissolved into a blur. He writhed on the mattress, gripping his head as if two versions of himself were locked in battle inside his skull.
At that moment, Aurora appeared in the doorway, holding a bag in her hand. She raised an eyebrow, puzzled. โIs heโฆ starting to come back to his senses?โ
Lucas gave a small nod. โLooks like it. It was just a mild concussion, after all.โ
Aurora nodded slightly and said nothing more. Whether Joseph was regaining his memory or not didnโt concern her. This whole mess had been his doing.
Her showing up at all, even bringing something with her, was the extent of her basic decency.
Seeing that he seemed stable enough, she placed the bag down and turned to leave.
Lucas looked a little puzzled. โYouโve come all the way to the door. Youโre not going in to see him?โ
Aurora shook her head. โNo need. I just needed to be sure heโd wake up. I donโt want anything to do with him anymoreโnot in this life or the next,โ
Lucas was briefly stunned, then a satisfied smile tugged at his lips. He stepped closer and casually wrapped an arm around her waist. โAurora, I love this strong, independent side of you.โ
She gave a faint smile, clearly pleased with her own decision.
As they turned to leave, Aurora happened to spot a woman approaching, dressed in what looked like a caretakerโs uniform.
A thought crossed her mind, and she said to the woman, โThereโs a bag at the doorโitโs a supplement I brought for the man inside. Could you bring it to him? Thank you.โ
The caretaker blinked at the beautiful woman speaking to her, momentarily dazed. She pointed to herself and looked around, as if to confirm Aurora was actually addressing her.
Aurora gave a small, helpless nod. โYes, Iโm talking to you.โ
Only then did the woman snap out of it and quickly nod. โOh, yes, of course. This is for the gentleman inside, right?โ
Aurora nodded and was about to leave when the caretaker suddenly reached out to stop her.
She turned, confused. โWhat is it? Is there something else?โ
The caretaker looked slightly nervous. โWhatโs your name? How should I tell him who itโs from?โ
Aurora shook her head gently. โDonโt bother. No need to say who sent it. Just give it to him.โ
The caretaker gave a hesitant nod, not quite understanding, but followed the instruction anyway.
