Chapter 1064

The owner tossed his phone aside, not giving Joseph a second thought. To him, the man was nothing more than a petty clownโ€”able to jump around for a few days at most before becoming useless. Beyond that, the owner couldnโ€™t think of any other word to describe him. In his eyes, Joseph was just a spoiled heir insisting on making trouble for himself. Instead of enjoying a comfortable life, he had to stir up other nonsense. And for what? It wasnโ€™t as if heโ€™d gotten anything out of it.

Over on Josephโ€™s side, the fact that the Day Light Restaurant owner had hung up so quickly told him there was definitely something fishy going on. But as for the exact reason, he couldnโ€™t quite put his finger on it. Narrowing his eyes, Joseph tried to recall what had happened in that private room. He remembered Aurora suddenly standing up, telling him over and over to keep his distance. At the time, he hadnโ€™t thought much of it. After all, compared to Judy, he still preferred Auroraโ€™s looks. Both women had their own appeal, but in his mind, Auroraโ€™s beauty outshone Judyโ€™s by miles. To him, there was simply no comparison. That was why heโ€™d wondered if the two of them might rekindle their old flame. If that happened, he wouldnโ€™t have to waste energy trying to get close to Walton Corporation. Winning over Aurora directly would be killing two birds with one stone. That was exactly what heโ€™d been thinking at the time. And since she had agreed to meet him, he took it as a sign they still had a chance. After all, if a woman truly disliked someone, would she really agree to be alone with him in a private room? At least, that was how Joseph saw it.

But what happened afterward was clearly beyond his expectations. He hadnโ€™t imagined things would turn out like this at all. Joseph raked a hand through his hair until it stuck up in a messy tangle. He didnโ€™t even know exactly what was bothering him, only that he couldnโ€™t shake the feeling of frustration, especially with Judyโ€”she hadnโ€™t spoken to him in weeks. He hadnโ€™t received a single update or scrap of information from her. Whenever he called or texted, she either declined the call or ignored the message entirely. Even Emily, the manager Judy had left in charge back in the country, hadnโ€™t passed along a single bit of news. It was becoming clear to Joseph that the two of them were working together. No matter how long he waited, neither of them was going to give him anything. Realizing that only made his mood worse.

Just then, his phone rang. Without hesitation, Joseph answered. โ€œDarling, I know I was wrong. Just give me another chance. Iโ€™ll make it up to you, I swear I wonโ€™t be like before.โ€ He hadnโ€™t even checked the screen, assuming it was Judy calling, and launched straight into his plea.

On the other end, his father was momentarily speechless. Glancing at his own phone to make sure heโ€™d dialed correctly, he snapped, โ€œDid you leave your brain behind at the hospital these last couple of days? You pick up without even checking who it is and start calling me โ€˜Darlingโ€˜? What were you thinking?โ€

The light in Josephโ€™s eyes dimmed the moment he recognized his fatherโ€™s voice. โ€œOh. What is it, Dad?โ€ His tone shifted instantly, and the contrast wasnโ€™t lost on Haroldโ€”he wasnโ€™t a fool.
