โWhatโs the name of the partner on that project?โ Lucas asked casually, keeping his tone even.
In his mind, Vanguard Group also seemed to be bidding on a project recently โ he wondered if it was the same one.
Auroraโs hand, holding her fork, paused midair. She was surprised โ why was Lucas suddenly so interested in her projects? Why hadnโt she noticed this before?
โLucas, are you really just curious?โ Her eyes narrowed slightly, suspicion flickering in her gaze. Something about him didnโt feel right.
He froze for only a moment before smoothing his expression, lips curving to lighten the mood. โIโm just curious about anything that concerns you. I want to be closer to you. I donโt want there to be distance between us โ Iโd like to be the one you can confide in.โ
Auroraโs lips parted, his words leaving her momentarily speechless. Had she been overthinking everything?
โItโs the south city land project. The partnerโs name is Daniel Lewis.โ
At the sound of that name, Lucasโ hand, still holding chopsticks, stilled in place. Something about it struck him as familiar.
โWhat is it? Do you know him?โ Aurora asked curiously, noticing his reaction.
Lucasโ eyes flickered away, and he quickly placed a dish onto her plate. โNo, the name just sounded familiar. Doesnโt he have someโฆ questionable hobbies?โ
Auroraโs eyes widened. โYouโve heard about that too?โ
Lucas gave a small nod. โYes, it caused quite a stir. In the industry, heโs rather notorious.โ
Aurora muttered, โThen how can he still be so arrogant? He must have some kind of powerful backing, right?โ
โProbably.โ Lucas rubbed the bridge of his nose, looking a little uneasy. In truth, he had heard plenty about Daniel. The truth was, the man was capable and efficient. As long as nothing got too out of hand, he rarely bothered with those things. His so-called hobbies were all between consenting adults โ why should he interfere? But now that Aurora wanted the project, Lucas was determined to make sure she got it.
He reached out and gently brushed her soft hair. โAlright, donโt overthink it. Tomorrow will go smoothly.โ
โLetโs hope so.โ
Auroraโs words brought no reply, only a faint, meaningful smile tugging at Lucasโ lips.
The next day, Aurora arrived at Day Light Restaurant with Ian. The place was known for both its excellent food and its privacy, making it a popular spot for business meetings.
By the time they arrived, Daniel was already there waiting. Aurora exchanged a puzzled glance with Ian. Hadnโt they said he had certain peculiar habits and that he never arrived before others? So, what was going on now? Seeing him there early was genuinely unexpected.
Ian caught Auroraโs look and scratched his head, just as confused. โIโm not sure either. Maybe heโs not quite like the rumors say."
Hearing this, Aurora didnโt doubt him. After all, there wasnโt any better explanation. She had never dealt with Daniel before, and Ian probably knew more than she did.
โAlright, letโs head in.โ
Aurora led Ian into the private room.
