Chapter 1112

A dangerous glint flashed in Josephโ€™s eyes.

After witnessing so much, he realized only by fighting for things himself could he secure the best outcome, especially when it came to women.

He would never allow them to defy him.

Judy was the perfect example, wasnโ€™t she?

He had treated her so well, and yet she still dared to seek out another man.

Who could ever accept something like that?

Vanguard Group.

Lucas was working through a stack of documents when Desmond knocked and entered.

Gone was the gentle, considerate man from home; in the office, Lucas was like an ice-cold machine, unapproachable and forbidding.

Seeing him like this, Desmond couldnโ€™t help but feel a pang of emotion.

He almost missed the Lucas who appeared in front of Aurora.

At least then he would speak kindly, even smile at the staff on occasion.

But now, he was entirely differentโ€”like a stranger. Still, Desmond knew better than to comment.

โ€œMr. Carter, everything you instructed has been completed,โ€ he reported.

He added, โ€œDaniel will be signing the contract with your wife soon. But the exact timing will depend on her.โ€

โ€œAlright, I understand,โ€ Lucas replied without even lifting his head, his focus still buried in the papers before him.

Desmond wisely held his tongue. He knew by now that nothing seemed to stir Lucasโ€™ interest.

Nothingโ€”except matters concerning his wife.

Suddenly, Lucas spoke. โ€œDid they mention when exactly the contract will be signed?โ€

He recalled how much Aurora had fretted over this matter.

If the matter could be settled quickly, then perhaps she would have fewer worries on her mind and wouldnโ€™t be so troubled as before.

Desmond thought back to what Daniel had said, then shook his head.

โ€œMr. Lewis only mentioned that the contract would be signed after the banquet. Isnโ€™t the Walton family hosting one this week?โ€

โ€œSo I assume Miss Aurora plans to wait until thatโ€™s over before finalizing the contract. That way the project schedule wonโ€™t feel so rushed.โ€

Lucas set down his pen, his gaze locking on Desmond. The intensity of it sent a chill down his spine, leaving him confused.

โ€œWhat banquet?โ€

Lucasโ€™ sudden question startled him.

Caught off guard, Desmond rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. โ€œItโ€™s the one Walton Corporation is hostingโ€”to announce the end of their partnership with Hayes Enterprises. Beyond that, I donโ€™t know much.โ€

Lucasโ€™ expression turned colder, his eyes sharp with an edge that made Desmond even more uneasy.

Had he said something wrong?

Why did it seem that no matter what he said, Lucas was never satisfied?

But Lucasโ€™ mind was spinning for another reasonโ€”how was it that he hadnโ€™t known about this banquet?

โ€œWhen is it being held?โ€ Lucas asked suddenly, his tone icy.

Desmond didnโ€™t know. He only knew there would be a banquet. The rest was all secondhand information from Danielโ€”he was nothing more than a messenger and didnโ€™t have the details.

Seeing this, Lucas said no more. He waved a hand, dismissing him.

Desmond didnโ€™t linger, retreating to handle his own work.

Staring at the closed office door, Lucas sank into thought.

Why hadnโ€™t Aurora mentioned this banquet to him?
