Chapter 1129
Meganโs eyes lingered enviously on Auroraโs delicate collarbones, aching with the urge to reach out and touch. After all, who wouldnโt want to cuddle up to such a gorgeous best friend? But with her cousin standing right there like a wall, she had no chance of getting close to Aurora.
Inwardly, Megan sulked. Her cousin had no sense of gratitude. She had been the one who first thought of introducing her best friend to him. And now, because of that, she didnโt even get the chance to cling to Aurora herself. She really was the most pitiful woman alive โ unable to enjoy even the simple pleasure of hanging off her own best friend.
All because sheโd introduced Aurora to her cousin in the first place. The thought left her regretful. But now, it was far too late to change anything.
So, Megan stood gloomily beside Aurora and Lucas, realizing she had no way of turning things around. The two of them were so close now, it was clear there was no room left for her. Aurora glanced at her friendโs expression and felt puzzled. But then again, Megan was often quirky, so she didnโt press it. Maybe she just wasnโt in the best mood today.
Aurora tilted her head toward Lucas and asked, โWhatโs with her today? Is she in a bad mood?โ
Lucas shook his head. โI donโt know. But sheโs always been a bit strange โ you know that.โ
Aurora didnโt even argue, nodding in full agreement. โYouโre right. This isnโt the first time Iโve noticed.โ
Megan, standing right there, witnessed every word with wide eyes. So, in this coupleโs minds, that was really how they saw her? Honestly, the two of them were unbelievable. Like they said โ birds of a feather flock together. She never expected them to think of her this way.
Mouth open, she was just about to protest when Lucasโ sharp, cold stare silenced her instantly. Swallowing the words back down, she thought bitterly โ forget it. As long as they were happy together, it didnโt matter if she was misunderstood. At least this way, her cousin wouldnโt pin baseless things on her โ that was already a relief.
Megan edged closer to Aurora and whispered, โWhy are you still standing here? Why not go over to Madam Grace?โ
As she spoke, she carefully watched Auroraโs expression. But Aurora only shook her head. โMomโs busy. When sheโs done, sheโll come to me. I shouldnโt interrupt her. Besides, weโre adults now โ walking up and disturbing her like that would only be rude.โ
Megan didnโt really understand why Aurora insisted on keeping such distance. In her eyes, they were mother and daughter; there were no grudges that couldnโt be resolved. Why make things so awkward? Surely, a few words could smooth it over. But she also knew she was from the Quinn family, not the Waltons โ she had no right to interfere in Walton family matters.
Lucas, however, understood the quiet ache hidden in Auroraโs words. This was her own mother, yet she could only stand aside, watching Grace laugh and chat with her elder sister. Meanwhile, Aurora herself was left like an outsider, unable to step into their world.
The thought made Lucasโs chest tighten. So, he shifted closer, standing right at her side, as if to wordlessly remind her โ It didnโt matter. Even if so many people failed to support her, she still had him.
