The staff watched Tessa storm out, confused. What was wrong with her? Leaving was one thing, but why did she look so angry? They whispered among themselves.
โWhatโs with Miss Tessa?โ
โNot sure. The shareholders' meeting just endedโwe donโt really know what the situation is right now.โ
โI heard from inside newsโthe general managerโs quitting; sheโs resigned.โ
At that, everyone was stunned.
โWhat? How could that be?โ
If Aurora really left, what would happen to them? She had managed so many people. All kinds of projects, big and small, were under her charge. If she suddenly walked away, what would become of their work? Panic began spreading among the staff.
Ian had also caught wind of the news. Pressing his lips together, he adjusted his glasses, a decision forming in his mind. He hurried to the lobby to look for Aurora. At last, he spotted her stepping out of another elevator. Ian rushed over quickly.
Aurora looked a little surprised when she saw him. โWhy are you here?โ
By rights, this wasnโt even his working shift. Catching his breath, Ian asked, โMiss Aurora, are you really resigning?โ
โYes.โ Aurora met his eyes. โMy decision is made. Donโt try to talk me out of it.โ
Ian quickly waved his hands. โMiss Aurora, thatโs not what I meant.โ
But Aurora said, โIโm not the general manager anymore.โ
Ian shook his head, uncomfortable with the thought. โNo. To me, youโll always be the general manager.โ
He scratched his head, a little embarrassed. โIโve thought about it for a long time. Since I canโt change your decision, then Iโd rather just follow you.โ
Aurora looked at him in surprise and pointed at herself. โAre you sure? You really want to follow me?โ
After all, she had no company backing her now, and Ian knew that clearly.
But his expression was sincere. โMiss Aurora, Iโm not joking. I mean it. Iโve always worked by your side, and with you Iโve learned so much. So, wherever you go, thatโs where Iโll be. All the skills I have, you taught me.โ
Aurora didnโt want to drag him down. โIan, think it through. I donโt even know what my future looks like yet. Following me wonโt be as stable as what you have now.โ
โI understand, Miss Aurora,โ Ian said earnestly. โBut I donโt want to regret it later. Working with you has been the happiest time for me, and Iโve truly learned my craft. No matter what happens in the future, I want to stay with you.โ
His heartfelt loyalty moved Aurora deeply. She patted him on the shoulder. โAlright then. Keep working for now. Once Iโve settled things, Iโll reach out to you.โ
Ianโs face lit up with excitement. โOkay! Then Iโll hand in my resignation this week and leave with you.โ
Aurora let out a quick โHeyโ in protest. โDonโt be in such a rush. I havenโt even settled yet. Better to earn what you can while you can.โ
Ian shook his head. โItโs fine, Miss Aurora. Iโve already made up my mind. With your pace, youโll be back on your feet soon enough. None of this will hold you back.โ
