Chapter 1231

Listen to this chapter:

How had he never noticed before that Daniel was such a two-faced man?

Joseph snapped back quickly, โ€œI already said Iโ€™m willing to let the past go. But if you want me to truly drop my anger, youโ€™ll have to give me twenty percent of the profits.โ€

โ€œMr. Hunt, twenty percent is out of the question,โ€ Daniel replied, deliberately toying with him.

โ€œThen how much are you willing to give?โ€ Joseph frowned, irritation rising.

This time, Daniel had been the one to reach out to him. So, what if he set a few conditions? Wasnโ€™t that only fair?

But Danielโ€™s tone stayed leisurely. โ€œNot only will there be no profit concessions, but I wonโ€™t be giving you the project at all.โ€

Josephโ€™s brows furrowed, but Danielโ€™s answer came firm and unyielding. โ€œBecause I never intended to work with you on this project in the first place.โ€

Anger edged into Josephโ€™s voice. โ€œDaniel, what exactly do you mean by that?โ€ He didnโ€™t even bother with the formal Mr. Lewis anymore. The patience heโ€™d been feigning collapsed in an instant.

Daniel sneered inwardly. No wonder Lucas didnโ€™t want him working with Joseph. With a man this petty, even if they struck a deal, chaos would surely follow. Of course, Lucas was a business giantโ€”his vision was sharp enough to see what others couldnโ€™t.

โ€œMr. Hunt, I couldnโ€™t have been clearer,โ€ Daniel said. โ€œThe meaning is obviousโ€”I donโ€™t want to work with you.โ€

โ€œAnd what about everything I gave you before?โ€ Joseph demanded, dragging old favors into it.

But Daniel had no patience left. โ€œMr. Hunt, gifts in business are always reciprocal. If you insist on bringing that up, thereโ€™s nothing more I can argue. After all, you gave them willingly. I never forced you.โ€

At those words, Josephโ€™s grip tightened painfully around his phone. Joseph ground his teeth and spat, โ€œDaniel, do you have no shame?โ€

โ€œHey now, whatโ€™s with the insults?โ€ Daniel deliberately raised his voice. โ€œWhatever I am has nothing to do with you.โ€

โ€œSo the only reason you called me today was to disgust me?โ€

At last, Joseph saw Danielโ€™s true colors.

โ€œNo,โ€ Daniel replied smoothly, โ€œI called to tell you this project wonโ€™t be yours. But if there are other projects in the future, I might consider you.โ€

Joseph froze. So, Daniel had thought about working with him on something else. But after the things he had just blurted out, chances were slim Daniel would ever follow through.

Sure enough, Daniel continued, โ€œBut I heard every word you just said. Clearly, youโ€™ve been harboring a lot of resentment toward me. If thatโ€™s how you feel, why should I work with you? Better we stop contacting each other now and keep a little dignity while we can.โ€ He was ready to hang up.

โ€œItโ€™s him, isnโ€™t it? Lucas, right?โ€ Joseph suddenly blurted out. โ€œHeโ€™s the one who told you not to work with me, isnโ€™t he?โ€

He couldnโ€™t wrap his head around it otherwise. But the words left his mouth before he could stop them, and the moment they did, regret hit. After all, Lucas was nothing more than a so-called pretty face. How could he possibly wield that much influence?
