Chapter 1242
Aurora looked at Graceโs indifferent face, and the bitterness in her heart deepened.
She never expected that after all this time, the first thing her mother would do when she came here wasnโt to show any pride or appreciation but to question her, even to take Tessaโs side.
Had that month she spent bedridden taught Grace nothing?
Tessa was clearly venomous at heart. And yet her mother still defended her. It seemed Grace had never changed at allโthe only one who had was Aurora.
She had compromised again and again, and in the end, all she got in return was her motherโs escalating threats.
Hearing her words, Grace grew even angrier. โSo now you canโt even call me Mom anymore?โ
Aurora clenched her fists, unsure what to say. Facing her motherโs harsh expression, she couldnโt force herself to soften. She had been pouring her heart into her work here without bothering either of them, only for them to barge in and hurl accusations.
Who wouldnโt lose their temper in her place?
Megan saw the grievance in Auroraโs eyes and felt her heart ache for her. She snapped back at Grace. โMadam Grace, if you want Aurora to call you Mom, shouldnโt you act like one?
โWhat kind of mother storms in only to interrogate her daughter, wearing a scowl the entire time? Who are you putting on that show for? Aurora doesnโt owe you anything.โ
Tessa frowned at Meganโs words, clearly displeased, though inside she was secretly satisfied. That was exactly how it should be. The more Megan spoke this way, the more Grace would grow to resent Aurora. Megan had turned out to be the perfect accomplice. Tessaโs voice took on a tone of disbelief.
โMegan, how could you speak to my mother like that? Sheโs still our mother, no matter what.
โIf you donโt understand, then donโt speak nonsense. There isnโt a mother alive who doesnโt love her children.โ
Megan grew irritated at Tessaโs pretentious act. She waved her hand and replied, โCan you just speak properly and stop putting on an act with me?โ Megan wrinkled her nose, feeling all the more annoyed.
Graceโs eyes grew colder. Just as Tessa had saidโAurora had clearly been spoiled by Meganโs influence.
Grace was so furious she laughed, fixing her gaze firmly on Megan. โMegan, do you really think speaking to an elder like this shows you understand respect and manners?โ
Megan felt a pang of guilt, but she forced herself to stand firm as she answered. โAt least I know I wouldnโt throw away someone as remarkable as Aurora, only to treasure someone like Tessa, whoโs nothing at all.
โIn my eyes, thatโs nothing more than mistaking a pearl for a pebble. One day, youโll regret it.โ
Megan clung tightly to Auroraโs arm, refusing to let go, the two of them standing shoulder to shoulder. Though her heart was trembling after saying all this, she felt it was worth itโfor Aurora, it was worth everything.
Seeing how much Megan leaned on her, Aurora felt an overwhelming warmth in her chest. And Meganโs words just nowโevery sentence had been in her defense. This loyalty was something she would carry in her heart forever.
โThank you, Megan,โ Aurora said earnestly.
Megan brushed it off. โWhat are you thanking me for? Weโve always been best friends.โ
