Chapter 1242

Aurora looked at Graceโ€™s indifferent face, and the bitterness in her heart deepened.

She never expected that after all this time, the first thing her mother would do when she came here wasnโ€™t to show any pride or appreciation but to question her, even to take Tessaโ€™s side.

Had that month she spent bedridden taught Grace nothing?

Tessa was clearly venomous at heart. And yet her mother still defended her. It seemed Grace had never changed at allโ€“the only one who had was Aurora.

She had compromised again and again, and in the end, all she got in return was her motherโ€™s escalating threats.

Hearing her words, Grace grew even angrier. โ€œSo now you canโ€™t even call me Mom anymore?โ€

Aurora clenched her fists, unsure what to say. Facing her motherโ€™s harsh expression, she couldnโ€™t force herself to soften. She had been pouring her heart into her work here without bothering either of them, only for them to barge in and hurl accusations.

Who wouldnโ€™t lose their temper in her place?

Megan saw the grievance in Auroraโ€™s eyes and felt her heart ache for her. She snapped back at Grace. โ€œMadam Grace, if you want Aurora to call you Mom, shouldnโ€™t you act like one?

โ€œWhat kind of mother storms in only to interrogate her daughter, wearing a scowl the entire time? Who are you putting on that show for? Aurora doesnโ€™t owe you anything.โ€

Tessa frowned at Meganโ€™s words, clearly displeased, though inside she was secretly satisfied. That was exactly how it should be. The more Megan spoke this way, the more Grace would grow to resent Aurora. Megan had turned out to be the perfect accomplice. Tessaโ€™s voice took on a tone of disbelief.

โ€œMegan, how could you speak to my mother like that? Sheโ€™s still our mother, no matter what.

โ€œIf you donโ€™t understand, then donโ€™t speak nonsense. There isnโ€™t a mother alive who doesnโ€™t love her children.โ€

Megan grew irritated at Tessaโ€™s pretentious act. She waved her hand and replied, โ€œCan you just speak properly and stop putting on an act with me?โ€ Megan wrinkled her nose, feeling all the more annoyed.

Graceโ€™s eyes grew colder. Just as Tessa had saidโ€”Aurora had clearly been spoiled by Meganโ€™s influence.

Grace was so furious she laughed, fixing her gaze firmly on Megan. โ€œMegan, do you really think speaking to an elder like this shows you understand respect and manners?โ€

Megan felt a pang of guilt, but she forced herself to stand firm as she answered. โ€œAt least I know I wouldnโ€™t throw away someone as remarkable as Aurora, only to treasure someone like Tessa, whoโ€™s nothing at all.

โ€œIn my eyes, thatโ€™s nothing more than mistaking a pearl for a pebble. One day, youโ€™ll regret it.โ€

Megan clung tightly to Auroraโ€™s arm, refusing to let go, the two of them standing shoulder to shoulder. Though her heart was trembling after saying all this, she felt it was worth itโ€“for Aurora, it was worth everything.

Seeing how much Megan leaned on her, Aurora felt an overwhelming warmth in her chest. And Meganโ€™s words just nowโ€“every sentence had been in her defense. This loyalty was something she would carry in her heart forever.

โ€œThank you, Megan,โ€ Aurora said earnestly.

Megan brushed it off. โ€œWhat are you thanking me for? Weโ€™ve always been best friends.โ€
