Chapter 1248
Auroraโs face was cold. โI saw it clearly. You were the one who spoke rudely first. Given that, Megan was only defending herself.โ
โFine, fine, fine!โ Grace clutched her chest, repeating the word several times, too furious to even form proper sentences.
With a sharp huff, she turned to Tessa. โTessa, letโs not stay here any longer. I donโt want you being corrupted by these people.โ
Tessa glanced at Grace and saw that she truly was rattled. If that was the case, then wasnโt this her perfect chance? Putting on an air of helplessness, she cast a look at Aurora before echoing her motherโs words. โMom, donโt be angry. Sister probably just hasnโt figured things out yet. Give her some time, sheโll come around. Sheโs still young.โ
โYoung? Sheโs already in her twentiesโwhatโs young about that?โ Grace snapped, her temper flaring even hotter. โYouโre only two years older than her, yet youโre so much more mature and sensible. In the end, itโs because she has no respect for me as her mother.โ
Aurora clenched her fists at those words, but she kept silent, unwilling to explain herself. After all, she had already left the company. Whatever Grace said now had little to do with her.
As the two of them left, Tessa shot Aurora a mocking, triumphant glance. Now she had completely secured Graceโs side. She no longer had to worry about Grace changing her mind once she saw Auroraโs true abilities that the shareholders and others in the company had already witnessed. If Grace ever did soften, Tessa would lose out. But after todayโs confrontation, that possibility was gone.
Megan caught sight of Tessaโs taunting look and couldnโt help throwing a few air punches at her retreating back. โWhatโs with her? Whatโs she so smug about?โ
Aurora pulled Megan back. โEnough, donโt bother with her. If she wants to feel pleased with herself, let her. It has nothing to do with us. We just need to live our own lives without interfering with each other.โ
Lucas noticed Aurora lowering her eyes, clearly in low spirits. Even so, she forced herself to stay composed, comforting Megan instead. Watching her like this made Lucasโs heart ache.
He took hold of Auroraโs shoulders, turning her to face him. โAurora, if something is weighing on you, you can tell me directly. Donโt keep everything bottled up inside, alright? You have to remember, weโre husband and wife. You can tell me anything. If you keep it all in, it hurts me too.โ
Meeting his earnest gaze, Aurora saw only her own confused, unsettled reflection in his eyes. For a moment, she panicked, her glance darting away. โThatโs not what I meant. Donโt worry about me.โ
But Lucas wouldnโt let her escape. He wanted her to face her own feelings. โAurora, really think about it. Donโt carry everything alone. Whatever happens, you still have me.โ
Hearing this, Aurora felt her heart tremble. It was trueโtoday, Lucas had helped her so much. If not for him stepping forward, there were many things she wouldnโt have known how to say to Grace.
