No matter how much anger Joseph felt, he could only bottle it up inside. He knew this wasn’t the time to vent. After all, they were his elders. So, what he needed to do now was endure and prove himself with real results.

Joseph spoke in a low voice, “I’ll make up for the loss later.”

But Melvin only sneered. “And how will you make it up? I’ve been in this business world for years. It’s obvious you’ve already fallen out with Daniel. Forget about future projects; he definitely won’t give you anything. Unless you can find someone who has even more projects in hand than Daniel, I can’t think of any other solution for you.”

Joseph froze, surprised that his father saw through it so clearly. He had thought his father didn’t know the details, but now it was clear he understood everything.

“I… right now I don’t know either,” Joseph finally admitted he couldn’t handle it.

Here, he was out of options. Without Daniel as the main partner, he really couldn’t secure any other major projects. His father was right–without Daniel, it was as good as handing everything over to someone else. But as for someone with more projects than Daniel, Joseph couldn’t think of anyone.

These past days he had been running himself ragged. So, when his parents invited him home for dinner, this was what he had in mind. He had hoped his father might have some advice. But in the end, all he got was a harsh scolding, and his father still saw through his weakness and incompetence.

Though helpless, Joseph finally spoke the truth, “I really don’t have a solution. That’s why I came back. I wanted to ask if you had any advice. Now that the branch has lost Daniel’s big project, it’s already running at a loss.”

Joseph finally lowered his proud head. He knew that if he didn’t make things clear with Melvin now, his father would find out sooner or later, so it was better to admit it himself.

Seeing Joseph like this, Crystal froze in shock. Even the movement of serving him food came to a halt. These two, father and son, had never given her a moment’s peace. But this was also the first time she had seen Joseph speak so plainly. Before, he never would have said such things.

Ever since Judy left him, he had grown heavier and more sullen, as if living on sheer stubbornness. But now, that stubbornness seemed to have vanished. The fighting spirit he once had was completely gone.

Watching this, Crystal began to wonder if he was still thinking about that woman. That was what she thought, and she spoke it directly, “I know you’re asking your father for help, but the way you are now doesn’t seem right. Are you still thinking about Judy?”

She had once loved him most, and she was with someone else–it must all be nothing more than playing hard to get.
