Chapter 1312
But Auroraโs anger still hadnโt eased.
After being kept in the dark for so long, was she supposed to feel like nothing more than a fool?
โWhen you hid it from me back then, was it because you thought I only married you for your money?โ Her sharp gaze locked onto Lucas, searching his eyes for the truth.
But Lucas shook his head firmly. โI swear, that was never on my mind. I promised my father I wouldnโt expose my identity lightly. In this position, I have to think of the company.โ
โThatโs the only reason I didnโt tell you. Iโve had too many enemies to face.โ
Aurora suddenly thought of something. Her eyes narrowed as she asked, โThen Megan knows who you are, doesnโt she?โ
Lucas froze on the spot.
He hadnโt expected her to connect it so quickly, but faced with her steady gaze, he couldnโt lie. โYes. She knows my identity too.โ
At that, Aurora let out a bitter laugh.
So, everyone else knew the truth about himโeveryone but her. She alone had been left in the dark.
โFine.โ
The smile on her face made Lucasโ chest tighten with unease.
Before he could say anything, Aurora turned and walked away, leaving him alone at the table to face the wreckage.
In that moment, regret hit him hard.
He should never have hidden the truth from her.
Now he had managed to plant doubt in her heart, and winning her back might be harder than anything heโd faced.
Pressing his fingers to his brow, Lucas could only head to the sink and wash the dishes in silence, already trying to think of ways to make it up to Aurora.
After washing up, Lucas returned to the bedroom only to find Aurora gone.
Even the little mound her body usually made beneath the covers had vanished, leaving only a neatly flattened quilt lying cold and empty.
The sight struck him with a wave of disappointment he couldnโt hide.
He had known all alongโtonight, Aurora wouldnโt share a bed with him.
With a quiet sigh, Lucas walked to the guest room and paused at the door.
Using the spare key, he unlocked it and saw Aurora already asleep on the bed. But inside, all he felt was emptiness.
His eyes brimmed with guilt.
His hands at his sides curled slowly into fists.
He truly regretted it.
If only he had confessed his identity earlier, instead of worrying about so many things.
If only he hadnโt dragged Megan into helping him keep the lie.
Now Aurora believed she had been the only one deceived.
But that was never his intention.
Time had simply passed too long, and he no longer knew how to open his mouth.
Lucas stood there for a long time, wanting to climb into bed beside her.
But after wrestling with himself, he finally let the idea go.
Aurora needed time to cool down.
If he were in her place, he would want space too.
With another sigh, Lucas quietly stepped out of the room.
Inside, Aurora heard the soft click of the door closing. Only then did she slowly open her eyes.
She had known he would come.
And about that, she felt no surprise at all.
