Chapter 1323
It had to be because Aurora had already noticed something. Otherwise, Lucas wouldnโt have asked her that strange question. Thinking of this, Megan puffed out her cheeks in anger.
Aurora, however, ignored Lucasโs words. Instead, she turned to Megan, her expression serious. โMegan, why did you help him deceive me? You know me. The thing I hate most is being lied to.โ
Hesitation filled Meganโs face. She knew exactly what Aurora meant. They had known each other for so many years, and lying was indeed the one thing Aurora despised above all else. Even when Megan had made big mistakes in the past, she had always confessed, and nothing had come of it afterward. This time, though, she had listened to Lucas and gone along with him.
Lowering her head, Megan looked completely torn. She didnโt know what she could possibly say to make it right. She sneaked a glance at Lucas, but his expression gave nothing away.
Aurora, however, noticed it. She spoke bluntly. โDonโt worry about Lucas. Say whateverโs on your mind.โ
Lucas was speechless. Standing there, he suddenly felt like a clown.
Megan, hearing Auroraโs words, finally relaxed. Patting her chest, she said earnestly, โAurora, now that youโve said that, I feel relieved.โ
Lucas had a sinking feeling. The way Megan looked so determined made it seem like she was about to sell him out. And sure enough, her next words were: โAurora, you guessed right. I really was threatened by Lucas. He told me that if I dared breathe a word of this, the consequences would be unbearable. Just that one line left my poor heart scarred, and even now I havenโt had the courage to face you.โ
Chapter 1324
Aurora was speechless. Lucas stared at Megan in shock. He hadnโt expected her to stab him in the back so quickly.
Megan hid behind Aurora, looking smug. As long as Aurora shielded her, she had nothing to fear from Lucas. One Lucas or tenโit made no difference. She wouldnโt be scared.
Aurora glanced at Megan behind her, not fully convinced by her words. It was clear much of it had been embellished. That much, Aurora knew. But Lucasโs threatโthat part was likely true. Megan had no reason to lie to her. There was no benefit in deceiving her.
Aurora kept Megan behind her, then lifted her gaze toward Lucas. At once, goosebumps prickled his skin. Facing Auroraโs eyes, he felt an unexpected pang of guilt.
Lucas scratched his head awkwardly. โAurora, I can explain all this. I was just joking with Megan. Sheโs my cousin. How could I ever say something like that to her?โ
โYou did!โ
Before Aurora could reply, Megan poked her head out from behind her, glaring at Lucas with accusation written all over her face. It was obvious the two of them had now completely torn away any pretense.
Seeing Megan act so brazen, Lucas clenched his fists in frustration.
