Chapter 1343

In the end, she nodded.

โ€œAlright, Iโ€™ll freshen up first and then come eat.โ€

A smile flickered in Lucasโ€™s eyes. โ€œGood, I still have a bit to finish up. By the time youโ€™re done washing up, it should be ready.โ€

Aurora gave a small nod without another word and headed straight upstairs.

At that moment, Lucas felt deeply grateful. Desmondโ€™s strategy had really workedโ€“Aurora was finally willing to talk to him properly.

Before this, it would have been impossible. She would have either refused his goodwill outright or gone straight upstairs.

But now, the fact that she even paused by the kitchen door meant there was still room to mend things.

The more Lucas thought about it, the lighter his mood became.

By the time he carried the dishes out, Aurora had already come downstairs in her pajamas.

Her legs swayed in front of him, making it hard for him not to feel the heat rise inside.

โ€œDinnerโ€™s ready. Come eat,โ€ Lucas forced himself to pull his gaze away.

Aurora said nothing as she walked to the dining table.

The dishes looked rich in color and aroma, some of them even the kind that took a lot of effort and time.

One glance told Aurora that Lucas had definitely put in serious work for this meal.

And all of it was just to win her over.

That thought alone brought her an odd sense of satisfaction.

Lucas untied his apron, his wellโ€“toned body faintly visible. โ€œGo wash up quickly. You start first.โ€

Aurora only nodded without saying more.

She knew Lucas was usually a stickler for cleanliness. The fact that he had cooked for her so many times was no small thing.

Without waiting for him, she reached for her favorite dish with her chopsticks and was just about to take a bite when the living room suddenly went dark.

Her vision was instantly swallowed in pitch black, and she couldnโ€™t see a thing.

Aurora frowned, a wave of panic rising inside her.

She set down her fork and instinctively called out Lucasโ€˜ name. โ€œLucas, what are you doing? Where are you?โ€

She knew very well the electricity bill was paid automatically every monthโ€“there was no way the power could have been cut.

Besides, their house had a generator. Given that, it was even less likely they would suddenly lose power.

The only explanation was that Lucas had shut off the breaker himself.

Aurora stood up, her eyes robbed of light, and in that moment she felt utterly unsafe.

Just as she reached out to feel her way, her hand brushed against a solid arm.

She was about to speak when, the next second, a bouquet of red roses appeared before her eyes.

At the same time, the lights flickered back on with Lucasโ€˜ touch.

The room remained dim, but at least it wasnโ€™t the suffocating darkness from beforeโ€“there was enough light to see.

When Aurora saw the roses, the words of reproach stuck in her throat. She stayed frozen for a long while before slowly asking, โ€œWhy are you suddenly giving me flowers?โ€

โ€œGiving you flowers doesnโ€™t need a reason.โ€

Lucas placed the bouquet in her arms, then set two candles on the table and leaned down to light them.

His highโ€“bridged nose and sharp features were softened by the glow, his whole face bathed in a gentle light. In that instant, Aurora almost felt as if the scene before her wasnโ€™t real.
