Seeing that Megan had taken her words to heart, Aurora simply said, โGood. In that case, letโs wrap up. If you run into any problems, you can always come find me.โ
Ian and the two employees said their goodbyes seriously, while Megan lingered behind to ask Aurora about the questions she hadnโt understood in the meeting.
Aurora was glad to see it, though she sighed inwardly, hoping Megan wouldnโt give up halfway. She truly wished her to stick with it.
That evening, when Aurora returned home, Lucas wasnโt back yet. She figured he must still be busy.
This time, she decided to cook dinner herself. Normally, Lucas was the one preparing their meals, but she wanted to do something for their home as well.
She had only just started when Lucas walked through the door. The moment he saw her bustling in the kitchen, he hurried over.
โWhy are you in here working all by yourself?โ
His anxious tone made Aurora touch her nose awkwardly.
โI just thought I could share a little of the burden.โ
Hearing that, Lucas didnโt feel touchedโhe only grew more flustered. He stepped quickly inside, gently steering her out of the kitchen.
โLet me handle this. The kitchen isnโt for you. If you burned your hand, Iโd feel awful.โ
Auroraโs heart warmed at his words. She had assumed he was upset because she meddled in the kitchen, but instead, his first thought was her safety. The realization left her momentarily stunned.
And then his next words truly shook her.
โBut sometimes, I just want to do something for you,โ she said softly.
When Lucas heard her words, he pulled Aurora out of the kitchen, his tone firm. โItโs fine, I can handle this myself. You donโt need to. All I want is for you to stay by my side.โ
Aurora looked at him for a long moment before suddenly wrapping her arms around him.
The hug left Lucas a little stunned.
Puzzled, he asked, โWhat is it? Why hug me all of a sudden?โ
โI just canโt believe someone like you exists,โ Aurora murmured.
Lucas answered with complete seriousness. โIโm only doing what I should. To me, treating you well is natural. I donโt expect anything in return. Having you by my sideโthatโs the greatest gift you can give me.โ
Chapter 1377
โI understand.โ Aurora rested her head against his shoulder, her voice muffled.
Before long, Lucas took over where she had left off. Seeing the tomatoes and beaten eggs sheโd already set out, he thought for a moment and realized she must have been planning to make tomato and egg pasta.
When Aurora came back into the kitchen and saw him preparing exactly that, she couldnโt help her surprise. โHow did you know what I was going to cook?โ
โYou already set everything out. Of course I know,โ Lucas said simply.
Her smile grew even brighter. It made her heart overflow with warmth to be understood like this.
Before long, Lucas served up a steaming plate of tomato and egg pasta, along with some pickles heโd marinated himself earlier.
He carried the dishes out and set them neatly in front of her, one by one.
