By the end, Grace’s eyes were glistening with tears. “As her mother, my wish is simple. I just hope you’ll treat her sincerely.”

“Is it really that simple?” Lucas asked, genuinely surprised by her words.

He had expected her to ask for something else—maybe a business collaboration with Walton Corporation or help securing new clients. But instead, all she wanted was for him to treat Aurora well.

“I would’ve done that even without you saying it,” Lucas said. “Aurora is the woman I chose to marry. I know exactly where my priorities lie.”

Grace paused, realizing she had never truly doubted how Lucas felt about Aurora.

From his tone alone, it was clear he genuinely loved her. It still surprised her that someone of his stature cared for her daughter so deeply.

With a sigh, Grace’s expression grew wistful. “It’s just that Aurora’s background doesn’t quite match yours. What if your family looks down on her someday?”

“You don’t need to worry about that,” Lucas replied, calm but firm.

“She’s already met my parents, and our relationship is strong. My parents adore her–she’s found the kind of love and warmth she never had before.”

Hearing that, Grace froze for a moment, half believing, half doubting.

But one look at Lucas‘ steady expression told her he had no reason to lie. Besides, Tessa had already mentioned what happened at that family dinner.

Grace had no choice but to believe him. Yet the more she believed, the further she drifted from the real purpose she came here for.

“Oh, so you’ve already met each other’s parents? How come I didn’t know about it?” Grace said awkwardly.

She pretended to be unaware, wanting to see how Lucas would react. But to her surprise, he remained calm and unbothered, not the slightest ripple in his tone.

“I don’t see why Aurora meeting my parents is something she needed to report to you.”

Grace was momentarily speechless.

“You’re right,” she said with a strained smile. “I just thought, as Aurora’s mother, I had the right to know. But if you think it’s unnecessary, then forget it.”

Still, she sighed softly. “I just can’t help but feel that Aurora’s family background is far beneath yours. As her mother, I wasn’t able to give her a strong foundation, and I regret that deeply.”

Lucas finally understood what Grace was really getting at.

At first, he thought she might have changed–that she didn’t plan to use him to boost the company anymore.

But now, it was clear she’d simply gone in a long circle. Her real purpose hadn’t changed at all—she wanted him to pull strings for Walton Corporation.
