Grace once again stood on her moral high ground, judging Aurora’s actions. But even Arnold, who was standing nearby, couldn’t help feeling something was wrong. Raising a child was a parent’s responsibility, yet Grace was using it as a weapon to guilt Aurora.

At that moment, even Arnold found Aurora pitiful–born into a wealthy family yet treated this way by her own mother. He almost wanted to speak up in her defense.

As he spoke, Lucas stepped forward and stood beside Aurora. He hadn’t expected that while he was away, she’d been treated like this by her own family. The thought sent a chill through his eyes.

Standing at her side, he took her hand firmly and said softly, “It’s okay. I’m here now. Don’t worry.”

For some reason, the moment Aurora saw him, her heart finally settled. Even facing her mother had never brought her such calm. It was then that Aurora realized–feelings were something no one could explain. You only understood once you’d lived through them. Everyone’s emotions were different because everyone’s experiences were different.

Since Aurora was certain that Lucas could give her a kind of love she’d never felt before, she was determined to hold on to him tightly. After finally realizing how differently Grace treated her and Tessa, Aurora no longer held any expectations. Such false affection was something she didn’t need. So why waste each other’s time any longer?

She looked at Lucas, slightly puzzled. “What are you doing here?”

Lucas lowered his gaze toward her. “You’d been gone for quite a while, so I started to worry.”

Aurora couldn’t help but feel that his words sounded a little too endearing. “I’m at my mother’s house. What danger could I possibly run into? But what about you? Don’t you have work to handle?”

Lucas didn’t even hesitate. “Between work and you, it’s not hard to tell which one matters more.”

Warmth spread through Aurora’s chest. The way he said it made her feel completely surrounded by his care. For the first time, her heart felt at peace. As long as Lucas was there, she had nothing to fear.

Standing nearby, Tessa clenched her fists tightly. Why? Why did that wretched Aurora get to have everything, even the attention of a man like Lucas? Everything he offered should have been hers! But now, all of it had been ruined by that woman. Her silent rage burned inside her, but no one cared about what she felt. To Aurora, Tessa was nothing more than a parasite.
