Chapter 1518
Hearing that, a flicker of doubt crossed Aaronโs eyes. Maybe things really were as Tessa said.
โSo, what you mean isโฆ your sister hid his identity, too?โ
โOf course,โ Tessa answered without hesitation. โMy mother and I had no idea who Lucas really was. At first, we even thought he was some pretty boy living off her.โ
โYou couldโve seen it yourself. At my motherโs birthday party, he gave her a gift. We honestly thought it was fake.โ
Aaron frowned in surprise. โSeriously? That actually happened?โ
โYes,โ Tessa replied quickly. โBack then, I really believed he was just a sugar baby, so I wasnโt very polite to him. Maybe thatโs why Aurora chose to hide his identity and trick all of us.โ
As she spoke, a faint tremor softened her voice.
Her lashes shimmered with tears as she looked straight at him. โI swear, I never meant to deceive you. I just didnโt know who Lucas really was.โ
Aaronโs heart wavered. Seeing her eyes glisten like that, he was convinced she must be telling the truth. Maybe he really had misunderstood her.
โI didnโt expect you didnโt know, either,โ he said, his tone easing with guilt. โSeems I really was wrong about you. I never thought to look at it from that angle.โ
Tessa turned her head slightly, her voice gentle.
โItโs fine. Even we didnโt know who he really was, so how could I expect you to? Itโs justโฆ my sisterโs gone too far lately."
โOtherwise, I wouldnโt have even mentioned any of this. I never imagined sheโd end up with such a powerful man. I truly am sorry.โ
Then she looked at him with concern. โAaron, are you all right? Did Lucas or your family make things difficult for you?โ
Warmth flickered in his chest. He hadnโt expected her to worry about him at a time like this.
โNot great,โ he admitted, straightening his shoulders. โBut donโt worry, I can handle it.โ
In truth, the situation was a mess, but his pride wouldnโt let him admit it, not when he finally had the chance to regain his footing in front of her.
He didnโt want Tessa to think less of him.
Tessa let out a soft sigh of relief.
โThatโs good. I was really worried this might cause trouble for you. But hearing you say that, I can finally relax. Iโm so sorry, Aaron. Next time, if anything happens, Iโll tell you right away.โ
Then she smoothly shifted all the blame onto Aurora.
โLook at how things turned out. If my sister had told me about Lucasโ identity earlier, none of this wouldโve happened. I wouldโve told you the truth from the start.โ
Aaronโs expression softened. โThis really isnโt your fault. If anyoneโs to blame, itโs your sister. Sheโs far too cunning, keeping it from her own family.โ
โI never thought sheโd be like that. You should really stay away from her from now on.โ
Tessaโs eyes glistened as she looked up at him. โBut wouldnโt that be wrong? Sheโs still my sister, after all. Mother doesnโt want to see us at odds.โ
Aaron scoffed. โBut sheโs the one who kept this from you. Sheโs the one hoarding all of Lucasโ power and status for herself. Sheโs out there enjoying the spotlight, while you and your mother are left worrying about company projects. Tell me, is that fair to you?โ
