Chapter 157

Wendy caught the sharp glint in Lucasโ€™ eyes and finally realized that he was genuinely angry.

She clicked her tongue and said casually, โ€œAlright then. You two talk it out. Just donโ€™t fight because of me.โ€

The chill in Auroraโ€™s gaze deepened.

She gave a cold scoff and turned to leave, ready to walk out and give them all the space they needed.

But Lucas didnโ€™t let go.

His hand remained firmly locked around her wrist.

Aurora struggled, but his grip didnโ€™t budge.

Her voice turned icy. โ€œLet go. Go be with her. Donโ€™t touch me.โ€

A vein pulsed at Lucasโ€™s temple, his jaw tight as he stared at her lips movingโ€“every word cutting deeper than the last.

He wanted to shut her up right now.

And behind them, Wendy stood with her back turned, the corners of her mouth lifting slowly into a smug smile.

โ€œOh, my dear sister-in-law, this is only the beginning. Youโ€™ll get used to it, wonโ€™t you? Watching your man slip right through your fingers.โ€

The thought made her giddy.

Her steps grew lighter as she walked away, her entire posture radiating satisfaction.

The sound of the guest room door closing echoed faintly.

And in the next moment, Lucas snapped.

He leaned in, capturing Auroraโ€™s lips without warning.

She gasped, eyes wide, stunned into silence.

โ€œYouโ€ฆโ€

But he didnโ€™t give her the chance to speak. He kissed her deeper, silencing everything.

If she refused to let him explain, then heโ€™d find another way to stop her.

Her breath caught, her body stiff beneath his.

It felt like heโ€™d stolen the air right from her lungs.

She was drowning in him, struggling like a fish out of water.

Just thinking about that smug expression on Wendyโ€™s face made Aurora feel sick to her stomach.

How could this man still have the audacity to kiss her after all that?

But Lucas didnโ€™t give her a chance to pull away.

He was desperate now, and this was the only way he knew to show her how he felt.

It was only when her resistance began to weaken that he finally pulled back, his lips brushing against hers as he whispered, โ€œRora, just give me a chance to explain.

โ€œThereโ€™s nothing between me and her. Can you believe me?โ€

His dark eyes, usually so cold and unreadable, now held a rare flicker of vulnerability.

For once, his gaze was stripped of pride, filled only with sincerity.

And to her surprise, Aurora even saw a hint of pleading in those eyes.

But all she could do was laughโ€“cold and bitter.

She felt his grip loosen, and without hesitation, shoved him away.

โ€œEnough.โ€

She wiped her lips, disgust clear on her face.

The motion hit Lucas like a slap, and his eyes darkened.

โ€œYou really think that kissing me proves you love me? That youโ€™re genuine?โ€ she said, voice sharp and biting.

Lucasโ€™ eyes lit up with urgency. That was exactly what heโ€™d wanted to say.

But Aurora turned her head, cutting him off.

โ€œIn your dreams. You two enjoy the house. Iโ€™m done being here.โ€

Aurora turned and walked away without looking back.

She couldnโ€™t stay in that house a moment longer.

Lucas reached out to grab her wrist. โ€œRora, itโ€™s late. Where are you going?โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s my business,โ€ she replied coldly.

He didnโ€™t back down. โ€œItโ€™s too late, and itโ€™s not safe. Please, just stay here tonight.โ€

No matter what, he couldnโ€™t let her go out alone.

Aurora tugged her wrist, trying to break free.

But when her eyes met his, unwavering and dark with concern, she knew he wouldnโ€™t budge.

Left with no choice, she turned and walked toward the guest room instead.
