Chapter 159
When Aurora got up, she saw Wendy sitting at the dining table, her eyes sparkling as she looked at Lucas.
โWow, Lucas, I didnโt expect to taste your cooking again today. Iโve missed it so much!โ Wendy exclaimed dramatically. โYou have no idea, the stuff overseas is practically inedible. None of it tastes right. Home is still the best. And especially Lucasโ cooking.โ
But Lucas remained expressionless. โDonโt touch anything until your sister-in-law gets up.โ
Wendy pouted but, under his gaze, reluctantly put down the piece of fried egg.
From the corner of her eye, she saw Aurora.
The woman didnโt say a word.
She just stood there quietly, like an outsider watching it all unfold.
Wendy then walked over to her and, feigning intimacy, hooked her arm through Auroraโs. โMy dear sister-in-law, look at all the delicious food Lucas made. Donโt stay upset anymore.โ
โIf you ask me, you really are lucky. Lucasโ looks and background are both top-tier, and he even knows how to cook. Isnโt that the way to a womanโs heart?โ
Her words made Aurora raise an eyebrow slightly without realizing it.
She pulled her arm away without hesitation and scoffed. โIf heโs that great, I suppose youโve fallen for him too, havenโt you?โ Wendy looked a little stunned.
Even Lucas gave Aurora a disapproving look. โAurora, Wendy and I are just like siblings. Nothing more.โ
Wendyโs smile faltered at his comment, a subtle twitch tugging at the corner of her brow.
She clenched her fists unconsciously.
It was fine.
She would take her time to make him fall for her.
Wendy quickly adjusted her expression and smiled. โI know youโre still bothered about what happened yesterday, but didnโt Lucas already try to make it up to you today?โ
โSo, have you fallen for him?โ
Aurora stood tall and straight, facing the two of them calmly, and repeated what she had just asked.
Her eyes were serene, unreadable, as if all she wanted was a simple answer.
Wendy let out a dry laugh. โOh, come on, Lucas is so outstanding, of course a lot of women like him.โ
โAnd what about you?โ
Auroraโs gaze sharpened like a hawk, locking onto Wendyโs eyes.
Wendy looked away, cursing Aurora countless times in her heart.
Why did this woman have to say something like that right now?
โHah, whatever.โ
Aurora glanced at Lucas, casually brushing her hair back as she spoke in an offhand tone, โSee? You think of her as a sister, but she only wants to be your sweetheart.โ
Without caring how either of them reacted, Aurora turned and walked off.
The two of them were playing house in the living roomโIf she said anything more, sheโd only come off as the jealous one.
Aurora figured that, at the very least, she should have some sense when it came to this marriage.
Wendy quickly turned to Lucas, anxiously explaining, โLucas, I didnโt mean it like that, she misunderstood me! Oh no, if I hadnโt come, none of this wouldโve happened.โ
โIt is your fault.โ
Lucas cut her off coldly, his sudden words silencing her completely.
She had been planning to play the victim a little longer, but she hadnโt expected him to say that.
When she looked up, her eyes met Lucasโ cold, dark gaze.
It startled her so badly she shivered. โLucasโฆโ
