Chapter 164
After all, this was a choice, and a gamble, Aurora had made for herself. Even if she lost the bet, she knew sheโd have to deal with the consequences on her own.
She pulled out her phone, opened the ride-hailing app, and was just about to book a car when a voice laced with fury and bitterness cut through the air.
โAurora Walton, youโre doing this on purpose, arenโt you?โ
The sudden sound startled her. She hadnโt even noticed someone standing nearby. Steadying herself, Aurora looked up, only to be met with Josephโs face, dark and twisted with resentment.
โWell, look whoโs changed careers,โ she said dryly, unable to resist the jab.
Joseph blinked, caught off guard. โWhatโs that supposed to mean?โ
โNothing much. Just surprised to find a clown performing right outside my office,โ Aurora said casually. โNow move. Stop blocking my way.โ
At that, Josephโs expression twisted. The fresh style heโd worked so hard on couldnโt hide the rage contorting his face. โWhat the hell does that mean? I came here in good faith, and you insult me? Why?โ
Aurora rolled her eyes, completely unfazed. โBecause youโve clearly lost all sense of shame. A good ex should be like the deadโgone and never seen again.โ
She had no patience left for him. Every second she spent talking to Joseph felt like time wasted.
His jaw clenched as he stared at her cold, unwavering expression. But then something shiftedโhe forced a smile and softened his tone. โAurora, we were together for over three years. How can you just throw that away?โ
โWhen thereโs no love left, thereโs nothing to hold on to.โ She said it so naturally, without the slightest pause or hesitation.
Josephโs face cracked. His hands, hanging at his sides, slowly curled into fists. How could she be so heartless? He, the heir of the Hunt family, had already swallowed his pride to come here and talk to her, yet she still acted like she was the one in control.
Aurora watched him silently, his face unreadable, his eyes locked onto hers. But after three years together, she could see right through him. She knew exactly what was running through Josephโs mind. The realization made her stomach turn. Whatever feelings had once existed between them were long gone. As far as she was concerned, Joseph Hunt was no different from a stranger now.
Chapter 164
โIf thereโs nothing else, Iโm leaving. Get out of my way!โ
She reached for her phone again, ready to call another ride. But Joseph was faster. He snatched the phone from her hand in one swift move.
โWhat are you doing with your phone? Aurora, canโt we just sit down and talk like adults?โ
โThereโs nothing to talk about with someone like you.โ
Her eyes turned sharp, cold as ice. โIโm warning you, give me my phone. Weโre standing in front of my company. If you donโt, Iโll call the police.โ
Joseph glanced at the Walton building behind her. He knew if this turned into a scene, it wouldnโt do him any good.
He held the phone out in front of her. โFine. Iโll give it backโif you come have dinner with me. Just sit down and talk, thatโs all.โ
Aurora didnโt respond. She didnโt want anything to do with this lunatic. All she wanted was her phone back.
Joseph saw right through her silence. He suddenly grabbed her wrist, his grip tight, voice turning vicious. โIโm talking to you! Why arenโt you answering? Cat got your tongue? Youโve always had so much to say before!โ
