Chapter 164

After all, this was a choice, and a gamble, Aurora had made for herself. Even if she lost the bet, she knew sheโ€™d have to deal with the consequences on her own.

She pulled out her phone, opened the ride-hailing app, and was just about to book a car when a voice laced with fury and bitterness cut through the air.

โ€œAurora Walton, youโ€™re doing this on purpose, arenโ€™t you?โ€

The sudden sound startled her. She hadnโ€™t even noticed someone standing nearby. Steadying herself, Aurora looked up, only to be met with Josephโ€™s face, dark and twisted with resentment.

โ€œWell, look whoโ€™s changed careers,โ€ she said dryly, unable to resist the jab.

Joseph blinked, caught off guard. โ€œWhatโ€™s that supposed to mean?โ€

โ€œNothing much. Just surprised to find a clown performing right outside my office,โ€ Aurora said casually. โ€œNow move. Stop blocking my way.โ€

At that, Josephโ€™s expression twisted. The fresh style heโ€™d worked so hard on couldnโ€™t hide the rage contorting his face. โ€œWhat the hell does that mean? I came here in good faith, and you insult me? Why?โ€

Aurora rolled her eyes, completely unfazed. โ€œBecause youโ€™ve clearly lost all sense of shame. A good ex should be like the deadโ€”gone and never seen again.โ€

She had no patience left for him. Every second she spent talking to Joseph felt like time wasted.

His jaw clenched as he stared at her cold, unwavering expression. But then something shiftedโ€”he forced a smile and softened his tone. โ€œAurora, we were together for over three years. How can you just throw that away?โ€

โ€œWhen thereโ€™s no love left, thereโ€™s nothing to hold on to.โ€ She said it so naturally, without the slightest pause or hesitation.

Josephโ€™s face cracked. His hands, hanging at his sides, slowly curled into fists. How could she be so heartless? He, the heir of the Hunt family, had already swallowed his pride to come here and talk to her, yet she still acted like she was the one in control.

Aurora watched him silently, his face unreadable, his eyes locked onto hers. But after three years together, she could see right through him. She knew exactly what was running through Josephโ€™s mind. The realization made her stomach turn. Whatever feelings had once existed between them were long gone. As far as she was concerned, Joseph Hunt was no different from a stranger now.

โ€œIf thereโ€™s nothing else, Iโ€™m leaving. Get out of my way!โ€

She reached for her phone again, ready to call another ride. But Joseph was faster. He snatched the phone from her hand in one swift move.

โ€œWhat are you doing with your phone? Aurora, canโ€™t we just sit down and talk like adults?โ€

โ€œThereโ€™s nothing to talk about with someone like you.โ€

Her eyes turned sharp, cold as ice. โ€œIโ€™m warning you, give me my phone. Weโ€™re standing in front of my company. If you donโ€™t, Iโ€™ll call the police.โ€

Joseph glanced at the Walton building behind her. He knew if this turned into a scene, it wouldnโ€™t do him any good.

He held the phone out in front of her. โ€œFine. Iโ€™ll give it backโ€”if you come have dinner with me. Just sit down and talk, thatโ€™s all.โ€

Aurora didnโ€™t respond. She didnโ€™t want anything to do with this lunatic. All she wanted was her phone back.

Joseph saw right through her silence. He suddenly grabbed her wrist, his grip tight, voice turning vicious. โ€œIโ€™m talking to you! Why arenโ€™t you answering? Cat got your tongue? Youโ€™ve always had so much to say before!โ€
