Chapter 172

Aurora stood in front of the wardrobe, feeling a little awkward. Looking at Lucas like this, she wasnโ€™t sure what she felt. Usually, he was cold and aloof, like someone untouchable. The only times his emotions ever surfaced around her were in bed. Other than that, he always appeared gentle, calm, and composed. This was the first time sheโ€™d ever seen Lucas so helpless.

Aurora couldnโ€™t help but lower her voice. โ€œLucas, let go of me first.โ€

โ€œNoโ€ฆโ€

His head felt increasingly foggy, but he was still fully aware of what he was doing. With that thought, he tightened his arms around her. Only then did Aurora realize something wasnโ€™t right. She pushed aside the confusing mess of emotions in her chest, turned around, and pressed her palm to his forehead. She gasped, โ€œYouโ€™re burning up! Are you running a fever? Did you take any medicine?โ€

Lucas stubbornly clung to his need for an answer. โ€œDonโ€™t be mad at me, okay? Rora, I just want an answer. Nothing else matters.โ€

โ€œHow can it not matter!โ€ Aurora couldnโ€™t help raising her voice. โ€œCanโ€™t you take care of yourself for once? Stop being so reckless. Come on, Iโ€™m taking you to the hospital.โ€

Lucas held her wrist tightly, refusing to let go. โ€œIโ€™ll be fine with just some medicine. Donโ€™t worry.โ€

โ€œDid you really take it?โ€

Concern filled Auroraโ€™s eyes, almost spilling over. Lucas saw every bit of it. He nodded, insisting he had. That was why when Aurora came back, he hadnโ€™t turned on the lightsโ€“heโ€™d just been lying in bed, resting.

Seeing him nod, she finally breathed a sigh of relief. She helped Lucas back onto the bed to rest. The moment he lay down, he reached out and pulled Aurora down with him. She lost her balance and landed right on top of him. A low grunt escaped him, startling her. She quickly propped herself up. โ€œAre you okay?โ€ Her tone was clearly filled with concern. Even Aurora didnโ€™t realize that she wasnโ€™t that angry anymore. At this moment, anger wasnโ€™t on her mind at allโ€“she was only worried about Lucasโ€™ condition.

He shook his head. His lips, usually a healthy pink, looked pale now. โ€œIโ€™m fine. I just need some sleep.โ€ He wrapped his arm around her waist, slowly pulling her closer.

Aurora turned her face away, visibly uneasy. โ€œLet go of me.โ€ Maybe it was the proximity, but she could clearly feel the heat between them rising.

Lucas acted like he didnโ€™t notice, keeping his arm around her waist and holding her tighter. โ€œI donโ€™t want to let go, Rora. If I could, Iโ€™d want to hold you like this foreverโ€ฆ Roraโ€ฆโ€ His deep voice echoed softly in her ear. Aurora felt her ears burn, unsure how to respond, especially when he kept calling her โ€œRoraโ€ โ€“ his voice low and melodic, rippling softly by her ear.

โ€œDonโ€™t you already have your true love? Why are you doing this in front of me?โ€

โ€œMy true love?โ€ Lucas snapped back to his senses. Everything heโ€™d been struggling with suddenly cleared up. So, this was what Aurora had been holding on to all along? But where did that so-called true love even come from?
