Chapter 183
"Aurora, Lakey made breakfast for you. Want to come have a bite? I already tried it, the foodโs really great today,โ Wendy said with a bright smile.
Tried it?
So basically, the entire table was what Wendy had alreadyโฆ intar?
Auroraโs gaze swept over the table, then down at Wendy, who was still happily stuffing her face.
Her stomach churned.
The thought alone made her feel sick.
Wendy, oblivious as ever, kept talking cheerfully to herself.
โItโs been so long since Iโve had Lukeyโs cooking. Now that Iโm in Avenshore, Iโm going to eat my fill.โ
โAlright, enough. You sound like someone whoโs been starving for weeks,โ Lucas cut in as he walked out, catching just enough of her comment to feel annoyed.
He knew what kind of family Wendy came fromโshe didnโt exactly grow up lacking anything.
But sheโd been spoiled rotten by her brother, and that was why sheโd become so entitled and unreasonable.
Lucas was well aware of that.
Aurora looked at the chaotic mess that was the breakfast table and felt her appetite vanish.
There was no way she could sit there and eat peacefully with them.
She picked up her bag without hesitation and turned toward the door.
โItโs fine. Iโll grab something on the way. Iโm running late anyway.โ
Lucas stepped in to block her path, reluctant to let her leave. โBut I spent all that time cooking. Canโt you at least try a bite? Besides, food out there isnโt as safe as what I make at home.โ
Aurora calmly pried his hand away. โNo need. Even if itโs not as safe, at least I can eat in peace without all this noise and mess.โ
Her words were pointed, and both of them understood exactly what she meant.
Even Wendy, as slow as she could be, couldnโt miss it this time.
The one responsible for all the chaos was clearly her.
But since Aurora didnโt name names, calling herself out wouldโve only made her look foolish, like she was jumping to claim guilt that hadnโt been assigned.
So, she could only sit there in silence, fuming behind her forced smile.
In the end, Wendy had no choice but to swallow the bitter taste of her own consequences.
Lucas, seeing that he couldnโt stop Aurora from leaving, had to let her go, though his voice still carried quiet concern as he reminded her to eat something.
Aurora gave a half-hearted nod and walked out the door without looking back.
She had no intention of wasting another second in that house.
The sharp slam of the door echoed behind her, and only then did Wendy speak, her tone laced with irritation.
โLukey, whatโs wrong with her? You made that breakfast with so much effort, and she didnโt even touch a bite."
โI think sheโs just doing it on purpose. You got up early just to make that meal.โ
โEat your breakfast,โ Lucas said coldly, his gaze suddenly sharp. โThis is between me and her. You donโt get to weigh in. Donโt forget, youโre just a guest in this house.โ
Wendy hadnโt seen this side of Lucas in a long time. His stern tone made her flinch.
Sheโd grown used to his mild manner, his easy smile.
This was the first time in ages sheโd seen him truly angry.
Lucas noticed the way her hands trembled, and though he didnโt push furtherโout of consideration for their long friendshipโhis frustration was clear.
Still, he found himself staring at the table, appetite gone.
In the end, he picked up his keys and left for the office.
Once both of them were gone, Wendy sat alone, staring at the untouched dishes on the table.
She didnโt move. Just sat there in silence, blank and dazed.
