Chapter 186

The man had his back to the door and had no idea Aurora was standing outside, seeing everything unfold before her eyes.

Wendy, however, caught sight of Aurora from the corner of her eye. A glint flashed through her gaze, and her voice grew even louder with praise.

Aurora slowly clenched her fists. In the end, she turned and left without saying a word. If one looked closely, they could catch the chill in her eyes.

Wendy’s peripheral vision remained fixed on Aurora’s every move. When she saw her leave, a slow smile began to stretch across her lips.

Lucas, irritated, said, “If we’re talking about the project, then talk about the project. Stay away from me.” As he spoke, he shifted his body to the right.

Seeing that her goal had been achieved, Wendy didn’t insist on getting closer. It didn’t matter anymore—Aurora had already seen everything she needed to see.

“I’ll be more careful next time, Lukey,” Wendy replied sweetly.

Lucas narrowed his eyes at her obedience, sensing something was off. But he couldn’t quite put a finger on what it was.

“Alright then, is there anything else you don’t understand?” Given her cooperative attitude, he had no reason to say anything more.

Wendy shook her head obediently. “No, that’s all. Thank you, Lakey. I understand everything now.”

Lucas gave a faint grunt and stood up to leave. He hadn’t wanted to tutor Wendy in the first place, but she kept pestering him, and he eventually gave in and entered her room to go over the project. He also remembered what Kenneth had asked of him. After all, she was his only sister–he couldn’t just ignore her after he came all the way to his turf. If she went back and told Kenneth, it would put him in an awkward position, caught in the middle.

He glanced over the project at the time and saw nothing critical in it, so he figured a few pointers would do. And that was how everything that followed had come to pass.

Wendy watched Lucas‘ back as he walked away, simply seeing him off without making any move to stop him. After all, she had already achieved her goal. She didn’t believe Aurora would still want to have anything to do with Lucas after witnessing what had just happened. Could the two of them possibly go back to how things were before? Of course not. Wendy was absolutely confident about that.

Chapter 186

After spending the past few days with Aurora, she had gotten a good sense of her personality.

Smiling, Wendy said, “Thanks for helping me with the project, Lakey. If I run into trouble again, I’ll come ask you..."

“You need to learn this stuff on your own,” Lucas replied, his brow tightening. He had no interest in repeating this again. Helping her once or twice was one thing, but if it happened too often, what if Aurora misunderstood?

Wendy’s smile faltered at his words, and her hand at her side slowly clenched. “But Lukey, we’ve known each other for so long. I’m sure your wife wouldn’t mind something like this.” She tried to recover, attempting to use their history to stir up old memories in him.

They were the ones who knew each other first–how could their bond be so easily replaced by someone who came later? Lucas let out a cold snort. “Whatever she thinks, that’s her business. But the two of us can’t go back to how we were. We’re adults now. You should understand that.”

With that, Lucas didn’t linger. He turned and walked straight back to his room. He left Wendy standing alone in the hallway and staring blankly at the closed door for a long time.
